Can I get into the University of Florida?

Hi everyone! I am new to College Confidential and am a junior in high school, and will be a senior this coming August. I am a Florida resident and was wondering if I can get into UF. I was a part of the Business and Finance Academy for four years where I became a Microsoft Office Specialist (certified in: PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Access). I was on the cross- country and track team for four years. I was the only person to go to states all four years of my high school career. I was a member of the Beta Club, where I obtained 200 hours as a hospital volunteer. I have awesome teachers who can write great letters of recommendation!! I also held a job at Publix for three years. I have a 3.87 GPA and a 28 GPA.

**Typo 28 ACT

I have worked my hardest, and would really appreciate any insight.

Is your GPA 3.87 weighted or unweighted?

Hi! My GPA is unweighted.

@mielketyler123 Okay, that’s pretty good… what about weighted? and how rigorous is your course load?

Weighted my GPA is a 4.2. I will have taken 6 AP classes by the time I graduate, and I have gotten A’s in all except, one class I earned a B. I took mostly honors classes as well, and earned A’s in all except math where I earned a B.

I think you have a chance at acceptance, especially because you are a Florida resident and your stats are decent. You should try to raise your GPA as much as possible and try retaking the ACT for a higher score. Good luck!

Thank you so much for your help! Do you have any advice for me on how to improve my stats, besides raising my GPA and ACT? I appreciate your help!

You have a decent (not clear-cut) shot imho but I would focus very hard on the essay. What is your high school like? Public? Private? Class size? How many do they tend to send to UF each year?

Yes you need a standout essay.

I also applied to UNC for an Air Force ROTC Scholarship. If I increase my GPA and ACT do you think I would have a shot at acceptance to that school? I forgot to mention my membership in National Honor Society. Thank you for your help!

If you get that ACT to a 30+, you’ll have a huge leg up. Remember the key is to stand out from the crowd - a lot of people who are applying to UF also play a sport and do volunteer activities, just like you do. Make sure you also spend some time on your essay, that’ll also be a huge help. Best of luck!
