Can I get into these colleges? UCLA, UCI, SDSU...

I’m a current high school senior and I recently applied to UCLA, UC Irvine UC Riverside, UC Santa Barbara. For CSU’s I applied to SDSU, CSU Fullerton, CSU San Marcos, and Sonoma State. The major I applied for is Nursing.

My cumulative GPA (weighted): 3.84 and my unweighted is 3.48

My SAT score is 990. I got 550 on the English section and 480 on the math section.

I’ve done over 100 hours of community service, complete two internships, and apart of a few clubs.

I’ve been admitted to Sonoma State as undeclared since I didn’t pass their requirements for their Nursing Program.

My worry is that I won’t get accepted into the other universities with my major.

Your SAT scores are very low for any of the Nursing programs and some have 5% acceptance rates and reject many top applicants. GPA and test scores are low for all the UC’s except for UCR on your list. What major for UCSB and UCR since they have no Nursing program?

Here are my predictions:
UCLA/UCI/UCSB: Reject
CSUF/SDSU: Reject
CSU San Marcos: Accept but undeclared
UCR: Waitlist

If you get into San Marcos and you have Sonoma state as an option, you can work hard for good grades in the Nursing pre-req’s and then reapply to Nursing school.

Good Luck.

The following CSU’s are still taking applications, so it my be a benefit if you add a few more schools to your list:
Bakersfield, Fresno, Channel Islands, Dominguez Hills, LA and Monterey Bay. I would check each school to make sure your major is still available to apply.

For UC Riverside I applied for psychology and UC Santa Barbara I applied for marine biology. Thank you, I’ll definitely look into applying to other schools

UCR is possible but you have also picked a popular and competitive major due to the # of applicants that apply to this major.

Here is what a found out about Sonoma state Pre-Nursing and going in as Undeclared:

-I am an undeclared major and I can’t get into the Prerequisite courses to apply to the Nursing program. What do I do?
The prerequisite courses are restricted for Pre-Nursing majors. These classes typically fill up every semester. It is very difficult to get into one of these courses as an undeclared major. If you are unable to get into one or more of the required prerequisite courses, you may want to consider taking these courses at another campus. You can also look for an online course.

-How can I declare Pre Nursing as my major?
Beginning in Fall 2010, students admitted as “undeclared” or as a major other than “prenursing” will not be able to request and receive a change of major to pre nursing. Only students admitted to the university prior to Fall 2010 will be considered for a change of major to the pre nursing category.

So you might want to rethink attending Sonoma State as Undeclared since the Nursing pre-req courses will not be guaranteed to you.

If you are accepted into San Marcos as Undeclared, it looks like there are not the same restrictions and you can change to a Pre-Health (Pre-nursing) major more easily, so hopefully you will hear good news soon.

Thank you, I’ll definitely look into some communities/privates
