Can I get into these schools?

I have a 3.6 gpa and am close to getting around a 2100 SAT. I’m taking 3 maybe 4 APs throughout high school and my extracurriculars include:
-running/writing the script for my own theatre company/camp for the past 7 years
-some volunteer work for kids with disabilities interested in the arts
-writing and publishing 3 one act plays
-editor for the schools newspaper
-cross country team
-very active in school theatre company
-peer counselor
-head of german club

The schools I’m interested in: NYU, LMU Film, Chapman U (Dodge School), Boston College, UCLA, Fordahm, Ithaca, and Syracuse.

Also I heard that UC’s don’t look at freshman year and my gpa without freshman year is a 3.98 (i got a 3.0 freshman yr)

I believe you have a shot at NYU (Tisch School of Arts might be a different story, considering that they look at a lot of qualitative aspects such as portfolio and what not). Slight reach for BC. Very good chance for Fordham (in NY I am assuming). UCLA will be a definite high reach (I do not know if you are in-state or not and that will matter greatly when assessing your GPA).

UCLA is a reach because the instate competition of SAT scores is above 2200. If you are OOS, it will be very expensive.

I’m out of state for ucla- is that bad or good

Im out of state for UCLA is that bad…

If you are contemplating Tisch, nobody can possibly assess your chances on a site like this, because your talent review will be the most important component in your application. That will be true at any BFA program. You should calculate your UC-weighted GPA (go to any UC website) to figure out whether you are in range for UCLA. They might use separate criteria for admission to a Film school, but typically their accepted students have UC-weighted GPAs over 4.0. May we presume, from your list, that finances are not a major concern for you? I would add Florida State and Temple, as a safety, for some other good film schools. If you do score over 2100, they you should be statistically in range for all the schools on your list. That doesn’t mean a whole lot for programs with a portfolio component, though.

Thank you so much! I’ll really try to build up my portfolio then! Do you have any advice? I was considering making one of my one acts into a film with my friend who is great at shooting and editing. I’m also studying for four weeks at NYFA and I’m supposed to be making a bunch of stuff there. Am I able to include script drafts in the portfolio? Is there anything else I should do?
