Hi, I am wondering if its possible for me to get into this school.
Weighted: 3.58 GPA
SAT: 1280 CR: 420 MATH:420 WRIT:440
I know there pretty low, and i applied as a nursing major...

Long Beach received 80K applications this past year. Everything is impacted. Your SAT score is just too low for this school. Just my opinion.

For nursing - probably not.

All the CSUs except SLO use a simple formula to evaluate applicants. They call it the Eligibility Index. They simply take your CSU GPA * 800 and add your math and reading SAT. CSU GPA excludes freshman year, non-a-g courses, drops +/- and caps your AP bonus. It is typically .2 - .5 lower than weighted GPA - so, with a 3.4 and your test scores, your index is 3560. Unless you are local, their threshold for most majors is typically about 3800. If you are local and had applied undeclared, they would probably have taken you.

Some programs - like nursing - are so popular, they have a different formula that weighs math more heavily and higher threshold and specific requirements.

Unfortunately, they won’t let applicants have a back-up.

Long winded way to say, a back up plan is a good idea… With your index, CP Pomona, CSU Channel Islands and Sonoma would be good alternates - but apply undeclared. CPP is the only campus that allows applicants a back up major.

Good luck.

Nursing at CSULB: Reach

no one tells you this, but here’s the info: csulb admits more than 500 fresh. each year who declare pre-nursing. but u canot get into nursing program til junior year. at junior year, nursing accepts only 50 students. it takes a 4.0 to get into nursing, that’s your first 2 years at csulb, not high school grades. and u will compete with transfers with 4.0s. most unsuccessful prenursing students end up in health care administration, so u can learn to work in hospital billing dpartments. advisers push u to change majors if you get even ONE B if your prenursing so dont even bother. csulb chews students up and spits them out just to make their grad stats look good. they don’t let u change majors more than once. way overrated school. they have 80k apps, don’t know why. their FA sux too, really cheap, and buildings are old, nothing works.
