Can I get into Tufts?

I am a highschool senior I am probably in the top 5% of my class. My GPA is a 4.1 unweighted and a 4.64 weighted. I have not gotten a grade lower than an A- in my highschool career. Junior year I took AP Bio and AP Lang. Senior year I am talking AP Calc, AP Physics, and AP Psych. I am in NHS and I participate in community service at me church. I have played volleyball and lacrosse all 4 years. The biggest downside to my application is my SAT and ACT scores I got a 1710 on my SAT and a 24 on my ACT. Will these scores keep me out of Tufts? Can o get into the engineering program?

No, you likely will not get into Tufts with those scores. How can you explain your low SAT and ACT scores given your stellar GPA (4.1 UW?). Something just doesn’t make sense.

How did you do on your subject tests? Most schools want Math II and another science for engineering.

I don’t know why I prepped some but not a lot I don’t have time with my school workload and sports but I did what I can. I have taken biology subject test and got a 680 and I took math 1 last year and got a 580 and this year I took math 2 but the scores aren’t out yet. I can’t explain why my math score is so low I have had the best math grade in my class throughout high school. Also I am looking into biomedical engineering.

My school runs on a 4.3 GPA scale so that is how I have a 4.1.

It is very likely that those score are going to hurt you. What is the M and CR? What about SAT II’s? Did you try drilling for this and retaking?

Tufts -mid 25 to 75% scores
M 690 to 770
CR 680 to 750
W 680 to 770

ACT 30 to 33

Since it seems that you will be significantly below accepted student this is going to be tough going. You don’t happen to be URM, do you?Where are you in the rest of your college search, do you have a sure thing yet?

I would suggest you add some test optional colleges. These colleges understand that your scores may not represent you well as your grades. You are female, yes, so look at Smith, they have an engineering program.

Most selective test optional

I applied ED do you think that will help at least a little bit maybe?

Sorry, but I would be shocked if you got into Tufts for engineering with your scores. 580 on Math I ? 1710 SAT? With your great GPA, you made a mistake when you didn’t prepare better for these tests.

I hope you have some reasonable safety schools for engineering.

OP, you have another problem too. You state you want to get into Tufts Schools of Engineering, but admission requires an SAT Subject Test in either physics or chemistry along with one in either Math I or Math II. You have the math side covered, but your biology Subject Test will not work. You are fine for Tufts School of Arts and Sciences though.

I have WPI in mind also. At Tufts Women in Engineering seminar they said it was okay if I had the biology subject test seeing as I’m just taking physics this year.
