What is your SAT?

Haven’t taken it yet…Planning to take the one in March

If you do really well on the SAT (2100+) - you’ve got a shot.

Will I have a chance if it’s at least over 2000? like 2010-2050?

Sure - but a lesser one.

At a school like UCB every point counts.

It’s great to have high aspirations but, be sure to have a fail-safe backup plan. Apply broadly - you really never know.

Then will UCLA be much harder for me?

Keep in mind that students with 4.0 unweighted GPAs are rejected from UCLA. Your SAT will need to be extremely high to have a chance. Make sure you study, and have backup plans. There are other very good schools besides UCLA and UCB.

I don’t have a 4.0 GPA unweighted… I have around 3.6-3.7 GPA…

So your odds of UCLA and Berkeley are more of a long shot unless you get a really high SAT score. This is why it’s important to explore safeties that you will like. Your GPA is good for many fine schools if you broaden your search. I’m not saying to give up on Berkeley and UCLA but they are definitely high reaches.

I know someone who only got 2010 on their SAT and got accpeted to UCB… But he had a 3.80-3.85 GPA…

You may be accepted. However, you can’t count on it, because so many good students apply. So you should have back up plans and safeties, in case you don’t get in.

Here: http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/campuses/files/freshman-profiles-ca/freshman-profile-ca-ucb.pdf

and here: http://academic-senate.berkeley.edu/sites/default/files/committees/aepe/approved_2013_freshman_sel_crit.pdf

basically, every year students you would ‘expect to get in’ don’t get in, so people don’t want you pinning all your hopes there.

Thank you for this information! I do have back up colleges as well… i just hope I can at least get on the “waiting list”…

It also matters which college and major you are planning to apply to …

Of course! Everyone can get into Berkeley if they wanted to. Heck, in any university! :P

Are you out of state? California kids are given priority, but if you are OOS and are willing to pay full fees, you may get in.

Yes I’m out of state… I saw on the UC admission process that OOS ppl have to have at least 3.4… So will I have a chance with a 3.6-3.7 GPA?
