Can I get into UC Davis? Please Read & Help

is that really something that “we all know”? how do “we all know” this? typing something in all caps and claiming it’s common knowledge doesn’t make it a fact.

it’s unfortunate that you’re taking your hatred and ignorance to the davis campus.

are you serious? it wasn’t suppose to be offensive and sorry for rudeness. Just saying it’s not the most exciting moment when you find out your orientation roommates got into Davis with a 3.0s and 1500s. My bad.

okay, thanks for the apology. and i’m just saying that it’s disheartening to read young people with resentment towards people based on something as insignificant (in the grand scheme) as gpa and test scores. there’s enough of that foolishness in the parents forum.

is a person with a 3.something gpa really vastly inferior to a person with something higher?

who knows, you may wind up dorming with a black or hispanic person (whose high school gpa may or may not have been much higher than yours). that person might end up being the best friend you ever had. or–conversely–you could end up missing out on meeting a great person because you prejudged who they were based on skin color. or, they could be a complete jerk. but none of these scenarios will be due to the person’s race, high school gpa, or college exam scores.

“there were a lot of asian kids in general (mostly chinese) have that in mind when you’re asian cause it’s getting hard to get into college when you’re just “another” asian. UCI for example took much more hispanic students this year over asian from my school’s poll.”

I don’t understand this; Are you saying it’s had for Asin kids to get into college? Are you saying the number of Hispanic kids admitted to UCI outnumbered the Asian kids from your school? Are you saying Hispanic kids outnumber Asian kids in UCI’s freshman class? Are we talking number applied vs number admitted?

“your orientation roommates got into Davis with a 3.0s and 1500s”

Are you saying your orientation roommate and yourself are a fair representation of the freshman class? Should I assume your roomate is “the average Hispanic” with a 3.0 and 1500, and you are the average NOT Hispanic, balancing roomie out with a 4.4 and 2200 to come up with the average? That’s not what stat finder suggests. I probably have this wrong; I’m not very good at math .

326 kids got into UCD with a 3.0-3.29 GPA. One of you just had bad luck.

Why is there even an “average asian” and an “average hispanic” & isn’t it true that colleges now expect higher standards from the asian community? and why is that? I just see it unfair to the asian community because colleges everywhere are overlooking asians with lower gpas and sats. Why aren’t they being compared to the applicants as a whole rather than picking the highest gpa asian student. Idk maybe I’m just cynical. My bad OP. well back to the OP, just work on that essay & you should be fine. emphasis your strength and weaknesses.

And my no means was I trying to “represent the class” with my roommate and I. I reread my post and it was offensive in some levels. Sorry.

SAT and GPA dont really mean as much as you would think. Most SATS start at 7:45. Who thinks well at 7:45 in the morning? If you come from an hour away, you’d have to wake up at 6:45 beforehand. Earlier if you don’t want to fall out of bed and into your car. And if you were restless the night before?

GPA is even worse, depending on your school, the quality of the GPA is dependent directly on the school. I got a 2 on the AP Calculus AB exam last year, the highest in my class of 12 I believe. This year, instead of having 42 minutes per day per class, they’ve vamped the time up to 2 hours per day for the calculus program. How much better will they fare? Will it be because of the fact they have 250% more time than us? I’d say so.

If Einstein was just average in school, but unprecedented in Physics and Mathematics, just imagine what any one of these (including me) people could be :)

hey shrink! good to ‘see’ you on the davis board bringin’ the stats!
