Can i get into uc davis with a 3.6 majoring in biochemistry

I am currently a high school junior and I want to know my chances of getting into UC Davis with a 3.6 GPA while majoring in bochemistry. If my chances aren’t that high, what are some other majors that I could apply for to get into UC Davis

@hopefulucdavis:

Is the 3.6 your UC capped weighted GPA since the UC’s have their own GPA calculation? What about test scores, EC’s and HS course rigor?

UC’s review applications based on 14 areas of criteria so GPA alone (although very important for the UC’s), will not be the only part of your application that will be considered.

First calculate all your UC GPA’s using the Rogerhub Calculator. Post your Unweighted, Capped weighted and Fully weighted.

Below is some UC statistical data not just for UC Davis but for all the UC’s and based on your UC capped weighted GPA, it can give you an idea of where you stand in terms of admission chances. This data is not major specific and I have no data just for Biochem majors.

2019 Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.40-3.79 capped weighted and not major specific:
UCB: 1%
UCLA: 2%
UCSD: 9%
UCSB: 6%
UCI: 7%
UCD: 9%
UCSC: 40%
UCR: 53%
UCM: 80%

2019 Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.80-4.19 capped weighted and not major specific:
UCB: 12%
UCLA: 7%
UCSD: 33%
UCSB: 32%
UCD: 47%
UCI: 35%
UCSC: 72%
UCR: 87%
UCM: 96%

2019 UC capped weighted GPA averages along with 25th-75th percentile range:
UCB: 4.23 (4.15-4.30)
UCLA: 4.25 (4.18-4.32)
UCSD: 4.16 (4.03-4.28)
UCSB: 4.16 (4.04-4.28)
UCI: 4.13 (4.00-4.25)
UCD: 4.13 (4.00-4.26)
UCSC: 3.96 (3.76-4.16)
UCR: 3.90 (3.69-4.11)
UCM: 3.73 (3.45-4.00)

2019 Data:
25th - 75th percentiles for SAT totals:
UCB: 1340-1540

UCLA: 1330-1550
UCSD: 1300-1520
UCSB: 1280-1520
UCD: 1230-1490
UCI: 1250-1510
UCSC: 1200-1450
UCR: 1130-1400
UCM: 1020-1290

25th - 75th percentiles for ACT composite + language arts
UCB: 28-35
UCLA: 29-35
UCSD: 26-34
UCSB: 26-34
UCD: 24-33
UCI: 24-34
UCSC: 24-32
UCR: 21-30
UCM: 18-26

with a sub 4 GPA, UCD is pretty unlikely to admit you. You should apply if you meet the requirements - just also apply elsewhere.

UCM is probably your only shot at UCs. Most of the CSUs ,however are probably good targets. Cal Poly Pomona, CSULB (Assuming a decent SAT/ACT) down south and Chico, Sac and Sonoma in the North.

What are the rest of your stats and what are you looking for in your college experience?

It is my weighted and I take a lot of AP Classes if that’s what you mean

26 in the ACT and I haven’t taken the SAT but they’re not required for admission this fall anyways. I live in Alabama and I really want to go to a UC school but I hope to get football games and social activities but I also really want to get into the Forensic Science program at Davis

@hopefulucdavis: The Forensic Science program is a graduate program not an Undergrad program at UC Davis.

Do you have $65K/year to attend UC Davis since UC’s give little to no financial aid to Out of State students? Your stats are not competitive enough for Regents merit aid so you should expect to pay full fees.

You saw the admit rates for your GPA range which is around 9% overall probably a bit higher for Biochem and OOS students but you should consider it a High Reach school based on your academic stats. The UC’s consider HS course rigor very important but they also expect good grades like mostly A’s in the AP classes to be competitive.

If you are interested in Forensic Science and can afford to come to California for Undergrad, you might want to check out San Jose State’s program. SJSU would be around $40K/year to attend as an OOS student and would be an easier admit.

You could always do your Undergrad in your home state and apply to UCD’s graduate program after you complete your Bachelor’s degree.

Okay thank you!

@hopefulucdavis You will definitely have a shot on UCs, but it depends on which UC I am talking about. U are very likely to get into UC Merced, likely UC Riverside. UC Santa Cruz is possible ( depends on ur essay and extracurricular). And the rest of the UCs… Who knows, man. With luck, you could get into the higher tier UC. I applied to all UCs in 2019 and I only got into SC, R, and M with a weighted gpa of 3.59 and 1270 SAT. Forget about my extracurricular activities, none is better than mine
