Can I get into UCI?

Hey guys.
So right now, I’m a Junior going on to be a senior soon. Here are my stats:
3.83 Academic GPA
1860 SAT
61 hours of community service
I have won 2 medals in a FBLA competition last year.
Also, I have had my own business making money since 2012. I have been selling online on websites such as eBay, Amazon, etc. Made about $5k since 2012.

It would be great if you guys could tell me what my chances are for UCI.
Thanks.

By the way, I’m in high school looking to be a business major.

Calculate your UC GPA at the end of Junior year: https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/

If your UC GPA is 4.0+ with your current SAT score, you have a decent chance. It could not hurt to retake the SAT to bump up the score. Business Admin is an impacted major at UCI, so the higher the stats, the better.

Good Luck.

Thanks for your answer! I calculated my UC GPA and apparently, it’s a 3.96 but I’m not entirely sure. Hopefully, it increases this semester and in my senior year! But overall, do I have a good chance?

Wait, how do AP grades work for the calculator? Could you please help me on it?

You get 1 extra point for each semester of AP or UC approved Honor’s courses taken 10-11th grade. Maximum # of semesters or points is 8. You plug that into the bottom of the UC GPA calculator.

But do I count the Bs in AP classes as an A or no?

You input the grades as earned and then input the number of AP/honors classes taken (max of 8). That is where they will get weighted. So if you earned a B in an AP, put it in as a B.

Thank you for your help. Unfortunately, it only says that I have a 50% chance of acceptance as of now.

@icurryx3: Not sure what program you are using for calculating your chances, but all these programs will only use your GPA and test scores. There is no way to weight your essays and EC’s, so you need to take these programs along with any of us CC posters with a grain of salt. Yes, GPA and test scores are the major factors, but all UC’s will also consider your HS course rigor and essays/EC’s in their application review. Each UC campus will view each applicant differently, so all you can do is your best, apply and hope you have a good chance at an acceptance in the end.

Hm all right, thank you for the advice. But personally, what chance do you think I have with the EC’s and all I mentioned above in the original post?

I would say UCI is a Low Reach/High Match. Their business school is very competitive and UCI loves those 4.0+ UC GPA’s. So I agree with the 50% odds and may put them even lower like 30-40%.

Well, I still have this semester to increase my GPA as well as senior year. If I am to increase my GPA by then, will my chances increase? Currently enrolled in 2 AP Classes and plan to take 3 next year.

UC’s do not consider Senior year grades for admissions unless you receive a supplemental review where you can send your mid-year Senior grades. Senior grades are mainly used to maintain your provisional admission once accepted. Work on bumping up your test scores also.

Good Luck.

@Gumbymom They actually look at your first semester’s senior year grades if you are waitlisted, as well.

@Onikage34: Yes, you are correct.

Does it matter where one does undergrad for business? I was thinking that the MBA has the most value and should be done from the best college. I’m asking because I do not want to be paying student loans half my life.

Do I have a chance? Gpa is like a 3.3 now, was 3.1 at application for transfer with AAT in psychology and social behavior. I wrote a decent set of personal statements according to counselors and had some club and volunteer work… Not sure when we will start hearing back for fall

you can definitely get in! You have a way better SAT score than me (I got 1400) & actually did ECs & community service hours. Do just as good your senior year & have at least decent personal statements and you can get in. Also if you don’t get accepted to your major because it’s impacted & competitive , like me I put nursing, you won’t get rejected just put in undeclared. And after doing a certain number of units for the major you want you can switch to that major and it’s easier than other UCs, that’s what I read here.

What do you mean by the personal statements? To add to this, I’m gonna be applying for a position in a club for next year and will have taken 5 AP classes in total. Do I have a good chance?
