GPA unweighted: 3.55
I got all A-,A's freshman year
Got all B+'s sophmore year
Got 2 A's, 2 A-'s and 2 B+'s
Weighted GPA is around 4.3

Also I am the captain of the varsity track team. Rank in the top 10% of my class and ran varsity track for 4 years and played varsity soccer for one.

I've taken 17 classes so far with 2 AP's and the rest honors. I received a 5 on both the AP chemistry and AP US History exams. Next year I plan on taking 4 AP classes.

SAT Score: 2100/2400
1460/1600

Also I don't know if this helps/hurts but I live in New York and my ethnicity is East Asian/Indian. I was born in NY but my parents are from India.

My unweighted was about .15 higher but my weighted was lower by .07. I didn’t send my SAT but I sent in a 34 ACT. You have better ECs than I did, haha (math team and stuff, not even leadership) and our class load seems to be similar. I’m also out of state and Asian. I got in. You have hope :)

Check ALL the threads about UCLA from the class of 2016. So many excellent kids did not get in. It’s pretty depressing. Remember, UCLA had 90,000 applicants this year and room for ONLY 5400! Do the math. It only costs $60 to apply, so it’s up to you

You definitely have the academics to get in, no reason to worry there. But you do need something that makes a you stand out from other applicants. Some kind of achievement or activity that people would not generally associate with a high school student.

I got in this year, but what got me in is my essays. I wrote about being diagnosed with cancer at 16 and how that shaped my dreams to become a physician. However, your essay must use the most meaningful words that can be fabricated into what your writing about. I have also sold oil paintings that i made to pharmaceutical companies.

Good luck with your college journey!

If you are in NY, UCLA will be very expensive for you. Honestly, I would look for options in the East coast unless your parents are moving to CA. There are so many good schools there.

It is also difficult to chance as it is not clear if you are a rising junior/senior and what major are you intending.

Yeah I’m moving there anyways so…

Your unweighted GPA is 3.55. How did you calculate them into weighted 4.3? UC system has its own way to calculate GPA. The high school you are from is in NY, so it is hard to say what your weighted UC GPA is. You have a chance. I like you two 5s on AP tests. Have you taken any SAT2 subject tests? What major will you like to apply?

Your academics are great, on that front you are fine. Like some of the others said, it’s your essays that matter the most! Get them done early, and make sure you get people to read them and give you honest feedback.

Just to put you in perspective, I do A-levels and have a 2220 sat with straight As in my a levels and I got in. My ECs are nothing compared to yours so its definitely a very realistic target!

i’m a junior and will have taken 6 honors (my school offers 8), 7 APs (out of the 13 my school offers), and will have taken two years of journalism with an editor position for one.
i’ve been on track and cross country for three years, varsity for two on track, and have been dancing since i was five years old. my unweighted GPA is 3.65, and I’m an average student (As/Bs, with two Cs freshman year).
do i have a shot at UCLA? it’s my dream school.

Also, I got a 32 on the ACT my first time. I’m planning to take it again and am shooting for a 34. To add onto that, I am a Pacific Islander.

Hi, I’m a sophomore, white, and in the top 5% of my class (a class of about 650). I will have taken about 6 AP’s before I graduate, and all other classes as honors. I currently have a weighted 4.2-4.4 GPA (but this can easily change).

As for EC’s, I don’t really have any. There is a moderately high possibility that I will do marching band next year. For ACT, I’m pretty sure I can get at least a 27, maybe higher.

Can I get in, or at least do you have any suggestions?

Umm for mailman2516 I think your unweighted gpa is below the average but your weighted gpa makes up for it. I think you’ll get in, you just need a little more EC’s

For Chirshuy your going to need a higher ACT than 27, atleast a 31 would be fine. Also join clubs at schools because you need EC’s. Your GPA is great however.

Dancingqueen your EC’s are fine but the only thing that might affect your admission is your weighted gpa and what your UC gpa will be. Your unweighted is 3.65 but what is your weighted?
