I am a junior and I have a cumulative weighted GPA of 4.52 and unweighted 3.85. By the time I finish high school I’ll have completed 8 AP classes and 6 honors classes. I have a 4.8 GPA junior year. I’m a 3 year varsity soccer player and I’ve played soccer since I was 4, 5 years club, 2 years in ASB, 1 year on executive board as Treasurer. I’m the Vice President of special Olympics club, treasurer of Fellowship of Christian Athletes club, CSF member, fundraising officer for Current Issues Awareness (CIA) club. I wrote for the school paper as the opinion columnist sophomore year. 2010 on SAT, haven’t taken ACT yet but hoping 30-34 range. I’ve been a peer leader at church for 2 years. Getting a job this summer. My dad was an immigrant from El Salvador. My brother went to UCLA. I don’t know what might help me so that’s basically everything. I think I want to major in Mathematics for Teaching, or just applied mathematics or some finance related math major. Anything helps thanks for advice(:
I’m just a mom who has had one son accepted to UCLA (ended up somewhere else), but if my opinion is worth anything, I think you have a VERY good chance of getting accepted. The UC’s seem to put a lot of weight on GPA, and you have a good one with a challenging course load. Your EC’s are great! My main suggestion is that you do some type of math activity (tutoring?, start on a math project for your senior year science fair?) and write about your enjoyment of it as part of one of your essays. Also, if you haven’t already, be sure to get hold of one of the ACT study books (like Barron’s or Kaplan, etc.) and study the strategies, and take some timed practice tests.
