Can I get into UCLA?

I applied to UCLA, UC Berkeley, UC San Diego, and UC Davis... I already got into Davis. I really want to go to UCLA.

Weighted GPA: around 4.29 to 4.31
Unweighted GPA: around 3.92 to 3.95
SAT I: 580 (Reading), 610 (Writing), 640 (Math)
SAT II (their low, I know): 640 (Math II), 570 (French).

I never took any AP exams (b/c I feel that the college board is ripping us off) but I took two classes at a local community college (Algebra 2 and Calculus 1) and recieved A's and college credit in both classes.

The honors classes I took are: H/Geometry, H/Pre-cal, H/French III, AP French IV, AP Calculus BC, AP Stat, H/Physics... I have gotten all A's in high school so far except for the two B's that I had in Calculus BC (man that class was hard). I'm rank 17 out of 959 seniors (sucks that UC's don't look at rank).

Outside of school, I'm the treasurer of the French Club, the treasurer of IHA (international humanitarian assistance), and one of the editors of my school's daily online newspaper. I use to be a tutor at a local elementary school. I have won mostly academic awards (superintendent's honor roll, etc.).. w/ an exception of placing 1st and 2nd in the county fair's art competition.

I also have a job in a fast-food restaurant (don't know if this matters).

Assuming you are a California resident,
UCB/UCLA: Reach
UCSD: Slight Reach
UCD: Match

Thanks. And yes, I am a California resident. I also qualified for ELC. :]

UCB/UCLA: Reach
UCSD: Slight Reach
UCD: Match

You said that, flopsy. lol

Sorry, I think your SAT scores are too low for UCLA, Berkeley. You could try ELC but you would never know where you go.

SD seems possible because of your GPA.

The rest of the UCs would probably accept you.

I’m the original poster. It’s totally random but I decided to resurrect this thread for any future applicants with similar stats and hoping to get into a top UC. As it turns out, I was admitted to all four universities: UC Davis, UCSD, UCLA, and Berkeley (despite the comments of the respondents).

Yesterday, I began my first day as a 3rd year student at Berkeley. :)

Good luck to all future applicants!

Weighted GPA: around 4.29 to 4.31
Unweighted GPA: around 3.92 to 3.95

is this only your sophomore and junior grades?

Are you kidding? The UCs accept every one that you get a 3 or more on and give you full credit for a college class. That could get you a year off of college for a prolific AP taker. An $82 test is a bargain.

How is it going?

@futurexreject: Yes, those are only my sophomore and junior grades.

@hmom5: Community college classes are even BETTER bargains. The concurrent enrollment program at my high school allowed me to take REAL college courses at a local CC for free over the summer. Plus I had the entire session to prove myself and my knowledge of the subject (multiple exams/assignments)… as opposed to one single $82 test.
And BTW, I’m a poli sci major and one of the prereqs for the major is an intro to American politics class (PS 1). This requirement cannot be filled by an AP exam. None of the prereqs for my major can be fulfilled by any AP exam. If you received a 3 on the American Government AP test, you still have to take PS 1. If you received a 4 or a 5, you are allowed to substitute it with an upper division American poli sci course (but the main point is that you STILL have to take a class for the requirement). So in this case, the American Government AP test is essentially useless. Yes, you get the credits towards the minimum amount of credits needed to graduate-- at Cal, it’s 120-- but the most students end up with over 120 anyways. I entered college with no AP credits and I’m already a year ahead (senior status as a starting junior). It really isn’t that difficult to graduate early.
Also, the fact that I didn’t take the AP exams proves that you don’t have to be that ideal “prolific AP taker” to get into a top UC as a freshman. I guess this brings some kind of hope for the students who cannot and/or did not take any/many AP exams for one reason or another.

@Shrinkrap: It’s going great. I love it here. Aside from today’s unpredictably hot weather, I have no complaints!

Your post gives me hope. I hope I’ll be able to get into some UCs as well! :]

How does it give you hope, he has the average GPA for the top UCs, and knowing the UC’s, thats what they usually look at.

She* has the average GPA… BUT she also had a lower-than-average SAT score (1800s).

My stats give future UC-applicants hope in that even though nearly everyone I asked (including those on this forum) said I had a low chance of getting into Cal and UCLA… I got in anyways. I remember the horrid anxiety I had over college admissions between December 2006 and March 2007 (and the chances people gave me didn’t help either!). I also recall being as surprised as heck when I found out my acceptances to both schools in late March (within 5 minutes of one another!).
