Can I get into UCLA

I really want to go to UCLA but i am not sure if i am qualified.
I have a 3.95 unweighted and number 5 in my class. I go to a po dunk school in the middle of the desert, we are know for highest unemployment. yay.
I am in 4H as a teen leader and FFA as a reporter. 4 years of both
I did 2 years of vasity soccer. 1 Year of varsity track. 4 Years of varsity swim, I was a captain for 3 years. And 2 years of varsity golf. As far as awards go I got the chapter acedemic award for FFA for 4 years and I was star Greenhand for FFA. I got most dedicated for soccer and most inspiring for swim. I am on the Junior Fairboard (we put on the county fair)
I have raised a pig for 4 years and a calf for 1. I am in an ROP program for students interested in medicine and have about 150 hours of hospital experience. I am a part of a boy scout program dealing with students interested in being a vet. and i have a part time job at vons.
My community service is not impressive but i helped put on the relay for life one year and coached elementary school soccer for one season.
My EC's are ok, I think, but my grades could be better.

What state are you in?

California
I am also hispanic if that makes a difference

OH I am also on the parliamentary procedure team and did a math competition.

Hispanic, or any race can not be considered. It sounds like you’re from a less represented part of CA which is a plus. You don’t mention SAT score, but if it’s in range of their 2050 average with a couple of 650 plus lls I’d say decent shot.

3.95 weighted is pretty good, but what’s your UC GPA? (Soph/Jun years only, no PE classes, each semester of honors/AP gets one extra point, up to 8 points)

The average UC GPA for UCLA is about 4.1, so if you even have just 4 semesters of honors or AP classes you’ll probably be above average.

Oh, also, if you’re considering being a vet you might want to look into UC Davis, as well, which has the 1st or 2nd best program in the country. I think veterinary school is a grad program, but you could still benefit greatly from some kind of pre-vet program at Davis. It’s also much less competitive than UCLA. Just some food for thought. ;)

UC GPA would be 4.29.
Thank you, but after some further research animals are not my thing. What would be a solid ACT.

And just another quick thing. My high school is poorly rated and our town holds the title of highest illiteracy rate.
will this help or hurt me.

I don’t think your areas will have much of an effect, since UCLA, along with most public schools, is largely numbers-based. Any ACT score above 30 will give you a great shot, although you could probably get something quite a bit lower like a 25 and still have a decent chance.

^Completely incorrect, the UCs seek representation from underrepresented parts of the state. The top ones are flooded with applicants from affluent areas and much less so from rural, poor areas. It will help, but you need decent scores, not too far below their averages.

Does qualifying for ELC make my chances better?

A 3.95, California residency a strong extra-curricular activity record and you’re still wondering if you have a shot?

Of course, as long as your SAT scores are above average you have a very strong shot.

:) fair enough.
I am just a little worried. my sister didnt get in and she was accepted to nyu and USC sooo…

ELC will greatly improve your chances of getting in, ELC state wide has 60% acceptance rate at UCLA, so if thats anything to you, it’ll really help.

I personally think UCLA likes sat and sat subjects better than ACT, but then again, most of the friends i know don’t even bother looking into the ACTs.

If you were to do the SATs, anything above 2100 would greatly help, and 2200 is almost certainly in.

Without SAT I/II scores, it’s nearly impossible to predict.

@EC9224 well that’s expected considering UCLA is a stronger college than both NYU and USC.

Maybe not USC…

true. well I am actually embarrassed to say my SAT scores considering i fell asleep because morning practice for swim started. But i think I am going to stick with ACT and i am shooting for a 31 32?
what about purdue? stronger or weaker than ucla

Purdue is (generally) easier to gain admission into than UCLA.
