major: Electrical Engineering

Please let me know what are my chances!! thanks

Innnnnnnnnnn

Dude you are in, and it’s not even close. You might compete for some of the rarely offered merit scholarships. Scratch that, you WILL compete for those scholarships.

whoaa…seriously??

What are the decisive factors that say I’m in?

ACT, gpa, course rigor…

seriously now, how can you not see this.

i had a friend with much worse stats all around (although still pretty good relatively) get right into engineering. no deferral.

Oh wow…

But UIUC has one of the top 10 engineering programs in the country, why is it not harder to get admission into!?!?

Haha, I remember you from the USC forum. Honestly, you could probably get into all of the top universities for engineering except for a handful. You’ll definitely get into UIUC.

UIUC is relatively hard to get into, but it’s not an Ivy or MIT by any means when it comes to their admissions standards. Your stats would you make you competitive at any college in the first place, and at U of I you would probably be in the top 5% applying.

let me clarify my friend. i didn’t mean to imply at all that he was a shockingly weak applicant:

All honors/AP courseload for the most part, 4.4/5 weighted gpa, 32 ACT, much less EC involvement than you. he’s a really bright kid and has a great personality, i could imagine him having written great essays.

As for why UIUC isn’t as hard to get into as other top programs, my guess would be because it’s a state school and they can accept more students. But I can’t be sure. They are a top program in the nation, but we can’t assume that means they get all the top applicants like ivies.

wow you guys, that’s great news.

thanks for all the comments! =D

why would you even start this thread? You have a 35 ACT!!!

If you don’t get into a specific program, like Engineering for example, can you get deferred to regular admission or just denied?

You can get deferred to regular admission.

would it be more likely the person is deferred or just flat out rejected?

That would depend on the person’s GPA, class rank, rigor of curriculum, and test scores.

What do you think of my chances?

Are you kidding? Try looking at page 1 of the responses. You’re looking quite insecure here, and that’s saying a lot, since most everyone applying is exhibiting insecurity to a substantial degree.

There’s a good reason for insecurity.

Everyone at my school keeps talking about how much harder it is becoming to get into u of i. “You need a 33 and a 4.5 to get into business!!! Ahh I only have a 32 I’m screwed!!!”

People tend to freak out like that.

Also, there’s the fact that at least at my school, lots of kids are applying to u of i and I’m sure that’s the case at many illinois high schools. I come from a competitive area in the chicago suburbs, and the competition is raised because the school tries to be fair by admitting a certain number of kids from each region.

Also there’s always insecurity when the school has tons of applicants and relatively high admissions standards. Not to mention the clout debacle that has made people weary about the validity of admissions processes.

December 11 should be a really interesting day.

Edit: Having a 33 ACT and a 4.5 weighted gpa is not their standard… i was exaggerating to make a point about how people get things in their heads.

The high admission rate at the UIUC Engineering school is because the applicants are self-selecting. That is, people generally know if they’d get in or not, and the ones who know or think they wouldn’t don’t even try.

hm…interesting point.

ahhh…application is “complete- ready for review” suspense!!!
