With a GPA of 3.2 UW and ACT score of 28, can I get accepted into CLA UM Twin Cities? There is no ranking in my school, and no weighted GPA. I have some AP courses, volunteer activities etc.

Are you from Minnesota or Wisconsin? If so, I think chances are 60/40 in your favor. If not, I’d say 30% chance. Your ACT is where it needs to be but that GPA is low. In 2009 I was waitlisted (from out of state, Vermont) with a 27 ACT and 3.6 GPA, however I was ultimately accepted and am a senior here now. It’s only gotten more competitive since but essays and extra curriculars can go a long way!

Best of luck! :)

I am from Minnesota. So, probably I will be waitlisted too. I haven’t applied yet, planning to do it in Sometime in Nov.
If I am waitlisted, how long I will have to wait until, to hear back from them that I made it (or not, I guess).
I will have to apply to Winona, Mankato etc as a fallback. I am sure I will get accepted there. Can I keep those on hold while waiting to hear from UM? I wish someone explains to me how this plays out.

@Rosswatts ~ I don’t think you have to declare where you are going to college until May 1st, so you have plenty of time to see if you are ultimately accepted to UMN-TC, even if you are wait listed first.

Rosswatts - the earlier you apply, the better your chances. There is no essay so the app is straight forward. Find an hour this week and just get it done… and good luck!

What are my chances for Duluth? I believe UMD is a little less competitive.
My goal is to get into Computer Science. I am aware with 3.2 GPA and 28 ACT it’s impossible ot get into UM TC CSE.
Do I have any chance at UMD CSE or CLA? Even if I get into CLA, I hope to transfer to CSE by working hard and proving myself.
I can’t afford private schools, and I don’t want to start at Mankato, Winona etc. I want to get admitted to UM TC or UMD, then apply for transfer to Computer Science after completing pre-reqs.
Any suggestions? Anyone sees any flaw in my thinking? Nowadays, I am just not sure if I am thinking straight.

Bump… Any suggestions? Please.

The Univ. of Minn. is heavily recruiting students from the East and West. Bring those students will bring a more competitive application pool and $$$$. Therefore it is going to be much more difficult for Minn. students to get in. Because it is a land use school it can take up to 40% OOSers. Presently they only take 18%. The more oosers, the more money comes in from tuition ( and they can raise the oos tuition like Wisconsin does, and the other Big 10 schools) and the reputation becomes more nationally recognized. My daughter is a Soph. and works with admissions at the Univ. and this is the long term plan. Your scores and grades will be a problem.

How about UM Duluth? Don’t I have any chance there?

I found some statistics for UMN-Duluth at this link:

[University of Minnesota, Duluth Admissions Information - CollegeData College Profile](University of Minnesota, Duluth Acceptance Rate | CollegeData)

Looks like the average GPA of enrolled Freshman is 3.41, so your GPA is a little bit lower than average. The average ACT score is a 24, so your ACT is above the average. There’s a little bit more at the link that you can look at to help determine your chances. Good luck!

Rosswatts - Here is the link for info on transferring into CSE from within the U Minn system.
