ACT: 29

GPA: 3.5/4 (unweighted; 6 AP classes and a couple Honors classes)

Activities: Debate (I am one of the top 100 debaters in the country), Future Business Leaders of America (qualified to the National Leadership Conference twice), Tennis, Gay-Straight Alliance (Founder and President), Raising Student Voice and Participation (I am a member on the Lead Team; RSVP is an organization that asks students what they want changed about the school and we negotiate with the administration)

I plan to study political science and possibly major in economics as well.

Your ACT scores may hold you back, but your extra curricular are excellent. Are you in state? If so you have a pretty decent chance.

@coltron an ACT score 29 is equivalent to 1290-1320 on SAT CR+M, so that is actually “in range” of the middle 50% of admitted students

I was going to say same thing. Middle 50% for ACT is 28-32. Hopefully the rest of your application is strong, meaning teacher rec and essays, and you are admitted. Good luck junkie18!

I’m not in-state. I’m from Iowa

Junkie,

As the others have noted, your ACT is within the median range. What is your weighted GPA? UMD’s median weighted GPA is 4.11. You have a nice range of activities and also leadership positions–good for you! Hopefully your essays and LORs were strong. I think you have a good chance of acceptance–GOOD LUCK! :)

I don’t know what my weighted GPA is. Our school doesn’t do weighted GPAs unfortunately.
