classes i'm taking this year include: AP Lang. and comp., physics, band, french IV, AP calc
(only AP classes offered at my school)

my oldest brother graduated from Michigan in 2008 and i have another brother that went there for a year (dropped out to pursue career in music)

also thinking of applying to UChicago where another one of my brothers goes but not sure I have a chance there :/

Michigan is my first choice! I've visited many times and I love Ann Arbor. I'd like to major in international relations or econ. and possibly minor in french but that's subject to change. I'd apply to LSA

and with my stats, do you think my essays need to be spectacular or pretty good? Because I know my ACT score is fairly low
so wasnt sure if I had to counteract that with amazing essays. Im nervous because Im not a very good writer! How much emphasis does u of m put on the supplemental/common essays??

thanks!

p.s. if anyone would like to give me advice on my essay (preferably a current student - but doesn't necessarily matter!) that would be awesome! it's the second supplemental essay about the undergrad program. it's very rough - in fact i just finished it - and hasn't had any edits so don't expect anything great! ha

Yeah, you should be fine. The ACT is a little low but a 4.0 and IS all but guarantees you admissions.

good to know anyone else?

You’ve got a great chance. Apply early action (by 11/1) to help your odds.

I would say you are in as well. Best of luck to you! :-)

Reach
ACT28 way too low
need 32 with Private school

I would say safe match. Valedictorian and 4.0 GPA looks good, IS status will help. ACT is slightly lower, but if you apply early, your chances are solid.

^with all due respect, ADMGOD007, there is not a lot of evidence to support your opinion. In michigans own material, it places greater emphasis on gpa than scores, and if her brother was accepted from presumably the same hs, then it is likely a school sufficiently well regarded by umich. She’s also instate. Provided her course load has been rigorous and her recommendations are strong, she should be able to overcome a slightly lower than average (for mich) ACT.

OP, your rank and gpa should assist you greatly; I like your chances. Nonetheless write the strongest essays you can, be clear about your desire to attend, and apply early.
Best wishes.

These types of off the wall shoot from the hip comments do not add any value…

I got in last year with a 29 on the ACT (my first time taking the test - bad idea!). I didn’t retake it because I was almost positive it was good enough to get into the school. I had a 4.0 GPA and a good amount of extracurricular activities as well. You’ll be fine! :)

I’m a female in the CoE by the way.

There aren’t enough students with an ACT score of 32 at private schools in this state to populate the Freshman class at Michigan . I believe they look closely at class rank, GPA & AP courses. Apply in November and if for some insane reason you get put on a wait list I’m sure you’ll hear from them in the Spring. You’ll want to have good organization in your essays and make sure someone proofs them for you. Overall, you should write at a level expected of one for success at Michigan. But I cannot fathom that admissions counselors have time to read every essay. But maybe when you’re on the cusp and they have to take a second and third look they are needed. (Just my opinion) Good luck and learn the words to The Victors while you’re waiting for your letter.
