Its always been my dream to go to Carolina, I make pretty good grades in school, All A's and B's and the occasional C. All my classes now are either Seminar or Honors. I took the PSAT and did pretty good for my age, I am currently a member of the Principal's Advisory Council at my school, I do a lot of vonlunteer work, and next year I will be taking mostly AP classes. Is there any hope for me?

Are you in state for UNC or OOS? We’d need to see more exact results than what you have posted to give you a helpful answer!

If you look at the UNC forum, EA applicants have posted their stats and their decision (admitted, denied, deferred). You can compare your stats to theirs.

I am in state for UNC

Okay, well, check out the UNC board for more specific advice, but just as a general note, you need to be very concerned about those C’s. IMO- for someone instate, they are going to be a pretty big red flag for admissions. If your GPA has recovered enough (i.e. you have around a 4.1+ weighted), then it might not be a problem, but just try to limit those as much as possible. Good grades alone can’t get you into Carolina, class rank/course rigor is also very important.

Anyway, don’t give up hope, just try to improve your test scores and GPA. I got into Carolina in-state with a 3.3UW/3.5W GPA, so there definitely are anomalies, but you just need to make that everything (and I mean everything: test scores, EC, etc) are stellar.

Ok thanks, as of last year my GPA was 3.7W, and I have been working extremely hard to improve that. And the C’s are only in one subject and with the tutoring I am starting I think i can eliminate them.

i think you definitely have a chance. a 3.7 isnt bad. just try to keep those grades up and you should be fine. i wouldnt mind a chance back http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/861966-chance-me-please-cmu-cornell-wvu-others.html

Thanks everyone. This summer I plan on attending a leadership program at NC State, which I’ve heard looks good on a application. Does anyone have any suggestions on programs that will look good to college’s?
