OK so my GPA weighted is around a 3.6. I have had really good grades in the past but messed up the first semester of my junior year. (Right now). I am in three clubs at my school to benefit the under privileged and sick children. I have many hours of community service and I have even spent time in Jamaica working with orphans this summer. I have played piano for seven years and have preformed in many recitals. I won a poem contest in sixth grade and my poem was published. My dad has very close ties with the administration board at UT. I plan to major in English and Human Rights and then after my four years I plan to go to law school. I can get really good letters of recommendation. Im taking the SAT later this month and plan to keep taking it until I get a least a 1800. What are my chances of getting in?

Are you in the top 7% by class rank of a Texas high school?

[Automatic Admission | Be a Longhorn](http://bealonghorn.utexas.edu/freshmen/after-you-apply/automatic-admission)

I dont know my class rank. I find out on monday. I know I’m with in the 20% range but i’m not sure exactly where I am. Ill say when I find out. I live in California.

You may want to read the reports here to get an idea of where you stand relative to the non-auto-admit students:

[Admissions Research: Automatic Admission (SB 175) Reports - UT Austin](http://www.utexas.edu/student/admissions/research/admission_reports.html)

It looks a little tough considering you are out of state. If you can pull your SAT to at least a 2000 and your GPA higher you’ll have better odds. Out of state students vie for a less than 25% of spots at UT while 75% are strictly for automatic admits .

Good luck to you!

Your chances are pretty good. The previous post is right- try to get your SAT up. It’s a bit tough to get into UT if you aren’t in the top 7% of a Texas high school. The law is auto-acceptance, and a lot of ambitious Texas kids can use this to make UT their safety. You can do it, but in order to secure yourself a spot, bump everything up a notch.

Really? A student with a 3.6 WGPA who might be in the top 20% with an 1800 SAT has a good chance?

ok I know I can get my gpa up and my sat to 2000. thank you!
