I'm applying to Penn as a pre-med student & i can't take AP Calc this year (i'm a HS senior).

I can't take the course b/c my stupid school teaches Calc AB & BC in the same year & the class is 2 periods long so it always messes up my schedule.

I'm taking Hon. Calc this year but i don't know if it would matter.
Would it?

my GPA = 94/100

i've been all Honors classes since freshman year

i've taken 3 APs (AP History last year, AP Chem & AP English this year)

my composite SAT Score = 2010 (i'm taking it again in Oct.)

i do a lot of extracurriculars & i have leadership roles in them.

my main question is:

Would Penn not accept me simply b/c i didn't take AP Calc but i took Hon. Calc?

are you serious?

the answer is YES. you can get into penn without taking ap calc. they evaluate you in the context of your school and what you’re offered.
one thing isn’t going to break or make a deal, so don’t worry about it.

hahah, don’t be silly =)

Your SATs will hurt you, not your lack of AP Calc. I took a grand total of TWO APs without taking the test and here I am, living proof you can still make it.

[insert huge sigh of relief here]

thanks you SO MUCH!

i just heard from people that UPenn only wants people who have taken or are taking AP Calc.

does UPenn take your best scores or evaluate all your scores?

yeah it superscores SATs
but like, maybe what you heard was that wharton likes to see ap calc..since you’d want to show that you took the hardest levels of math for a business school like wharton

oh ok.
thank you!

i like this website. :D

don’t know about other schools, but wharton does require applicants to take Cal during high school years.

but it won’t hurt if you take a semester of Cal in your nearby colleges for night or weekend classes.
