can i get into usc?

well im sure my scores will go up, i came in having never practiced or seen an act before just to get a feel for it and knowing that i would take it again. this was in an effort to see where my week points are and i've already signed up for tutoring in reading comp and stuff this summer. i think those can go up dramatically. im taking two APs next year, ap stat and ap enviro, and i know they aren't steller APs but its something to put on the table. how does usc look at extra curriculars? obviously grades are most important, but does having leadership roles, athletics, volunteer and summer work, on top of fine arts help or does it just look like a bunch of work. also, i hear that getting a good relationship with our rep helps, plus getting an interview. i think i can excell in the interview, how does that processs work, is it hard to get one?

leftguard:

you might also try the SAT Reasoning Test -- most kids do equally well (or poorly) on both SAT & ACT, but some do much better on one or the other. Good luck.

i took the sat practice and got like a 1950. the thing is i took both the act and sat without prep knowing i would take them again in an effort to see how i would do on either one, i have a feeling the act will be my stronger test if prep is applied this summer

Mark, to realistically evaluate your chances, I would like to know if your last name is Stevens. I don't find it fair to chance you without obtaining this appropriate knowledge.

no my last name is not stevens, why?

USC likes high GPA and SAT but they also look at the whole person. Many admitted students don't have the stats you see on CC. They love to be loved and a good interview might help too, as well as essays that emphasize those qualities that distinguish you from others and that show why you would be a good fit for the school. If you really want to go I wouldn't listen to folks that say don't bother to apply. Work hard to bring your test scores and GPA up and by all means apply. Just realize in terms of your stats it's a reach for you, so research and apply to other schools that you think you'd be happy at that are matches or safties. If you don't get in you can always go the transfers route or maybe you will find another school you like even more.

defintatly. im working on my ACT like crazy this summer and shooting for a 31 or 32. i think that could help. i just found out yesterday from a parent i know that he graduated from usc and has connections within the trojan family and can introduce me to other alumni. could this be beneficial? how would i go about asking for help. i want to learn as much as i can from these men and as about their expereince, but then how could i get them to help me with the office of admission? should i ask for a phone call, letter, or what?

does anyone know what my spring admit chances are?

Unless you are a top Football player that you have any chance at USC.

i think your essays and interview will have the biggest impact.

with that gpa,its gonna be pretty tough if not impossible...

I dont really think that USC will really pay attention to your freshmen year grades, mainly your soph and junior year grades. I think it is possible if u raise your ACT score. Worst comes to worst, you go to a 2 year college and transfer.

so what if i have a bunch of extra curriculars that im really involved in and show alot of leadership. on top of two APs senior year, most likely straight A's for senior grades, and a 30/31 on ACT, what are my chances for spring admit, because thats what im shooting for
