Can I get into UT Austin?

I am going to be a junior this 2014-2015 year and I have always made straight As except for a high B in Geometry my sophomore year. I have taken honors English my freshman and sophomore year and this upcoming year I am taking college English and college World History. I took the PSAT my sophomore year and got a 164. I am taking it again my junior year and I know my score will be much higher considering I didn't have a calculator the first time I took it. I am also taking the SAT this year and I am estimating that I will score somewhere between 1700-1900. My unweighted GPA is a 3.88 and weighted is a 4.0. I have been on newspaper staff since sophomore year and have been appointed to be Editor-in-chief for my junior year and probably senior year as well. I have also been in Journalism UIL since my sophomore year and plan on continuing that throughout high school as well as possibly Creative Writing or Spelling UIL. I was in band since 6th grade to freshman year and can play clarinet, oboe, and some guitar, but am not continuing this except for in my free time with guitar. I have been performing with my school's colorguard (which is dance, tossing/spinning rifles, flags, and sabres) competitively since 7th grade and plan on continuing throughout high school. It is something I really enjoy doing. I love writing and am planning on publishing my poems and perhaps a book in possibly the upcoming year. I volunteer with my church and attend Youth Camp every summer. I want to travel to Uganda with my church in January as well. I am in NHS and all my teachers love me. I am ranked 48 out of 351 in my class. I know it's not top 10% (or 7%, whichever is the new rule), but I hope the other things I will put on my application will help me stand out. Do you think I have a chance at getting into UT? (It's my dream school!)

You need to get your SAT score as high as you can. Then you just have to wait and see. My nephew had good stats and ECs but DIDN’T make it in. I have heard of other students with worse stats who DID get in. Is the CAP program still a possibility if you don’t make it in as a freshman?

CAP is definitely an option but honestly, I don’t know much about it. I know you would attend a different university in the UT system but that’s pretty much all I know. And how hard do you think it would be to get my percentage into the top 7%, let alone the top 10%? I believe where I’m at right now is about top 13%?

Impossible unless you can jump 20 people if you do get capped and move into top 7% then appeal like I did and they have to automatically accept you into the school based on their law. I don’t know how compatible your school is but if you can get that rank up then you have a good shot. Your second major chose education/undecided it’s the easiest to get in. Based on your scores you’re above average for people accepted.
Here this is what I mean

I have a lot of motivation for this upcoming year so I really believe I can get my rank up. Thanks for the link!

What do you want to study? Your intended major hugely influences your acceptance (or rejection).

There is no impossible. I was ranked top 13%, out of state (for god’s sake), and was still accepted into Engineering.
For reference, my sophomore PSAT was barely above a 150, and my junior PSAT was 177. However, I wrote rather unusual essays.

Sorry i over exaggerated

It’s pretty much between Journalism and Psychology. I jump around a bit but those two have stuck with me for a while. I’ve also always wanted to do either Game Design and Development or Cinema Studies (but I don’t believe UT Austin offers those majors).
And my sophomore PSAT was 164, I’m in-state,and I’ve always made really good grades. For example, this past year (my sophomore year) my final grades for all eight classes were all 97 and over except for a 92 in Geometry. I’m not sure if this really matters much, but I’ll throw it in there.

UT probably does not offer the latter fields directly, though you could do a combination of CS + art.
You’re a good student and just a rising junior. I’m sure your class rank and GPA will improve if you excel this year.
For example, by the middle of my sophomore year I was ranked 22nd out of a class of 105. By the end of junior year, I was #13.
Your performance at the real SAT or ACT will be better than whatever you managed at the PSAT.

Psychology is a really competitive major to get and
Communications require higher score than you have
