Can I get into UT?

I am REALLY hoping to get into UT this upcoming year. I am planning to apply to the School of Communication for Radio, Film, Television. I am, however, quite nervous about getting admitted.

My stats are as follows:

Gender: Male

Race: Caucasian

Residency: MN

GPA: UW- 3.40 (school doesn't do weighted)

Took a total of 6 Honors and 2 AP classes (so far)

Rank: ~Top 25% at highly competitive high school (Eden Prairie HS)

AP: U.S. Gov, Comparative Gov, Psychology

ACT: 27 (28 super-scored)

Senior Schedule: AP Lit, AP Stats, AP Euro, Spanish 5 (College Credit), Honors Physics, Concert Choir, AP Macro & Microeconomics

ECs:

-Executive Board Member for Drama Club (1st year on Board, 4 year member)

-Top Auditioned Choir (3 years)

-Auditioned Men's Acapella Group (2 years)

-Audition Chamber Choir (1 year)

-4 Musicals, 5 other productions (Been apart of Drama for all 4 years)

*Placed 1st at Subsections, 3rd at Sections, and 2nd at Thespian Society Competition for
our Competitive One Act.

-2 years of JV Lacrosse (Captain Sophomore Year)

-Amnesty International (1 year)

-Young Democrats (1 year)

-Various Volunteer Hours (~100 hours so far)

I know my GPA is low, but I believe my overall profile is pretty well rounded.

So, how likely is it that I will be accepted to this amazing institution?

RTF is not very easy to get into and being out of state with your stats I don’t think your chances are that great. Being out of state will really get you. Of course, I’m a random student and these things can be very random so definitely apply!

even as an in state student…

a 3.4 gpa basically gives you a 50/50 chance

you should apply just because there is a chance that they will accept you.
but don’t be surprised if they don’t

Bring your gpa up by .2 and you’ll raise your chances ALOT

i mean sign up for an easy summer class right now…if it’s not too late
taking extra school during the summer can never hurt you…as long as you actually try in that class

Thanks for the tips guys! Will my chances increase in I apply undecided and then transfer into RTF? I’ll apply regardless and see what happens!

Your chances are pretty slim I would say, out of state especially. You need you GPA yo be much higher and your rank as well. You can get that up though if you take al lot of APs and do well next year! Good luck!

That’s the plan! I am taking all AP classes except for 1 (Honors Physics). So, I could possibly get my GPA up to about a 3.5 by the end of 1 semester with good grades, maybe 3.6.
