Can I get into UVA out of state?

I’m a white female rising senior from Maryland and first generation. Here are my statistics
6/210 in rank
4.125 WGPA 3.9 UW
1980 SAT (1300 CR&M)
31 ACT
Varsity volleyball and captain
Varsity Track and field
Lots of community service
11 APs by graduation
4 AP calc
5 AP psych
5 AP world
Treasurer of NHS & Junior class
VP of French NHS and social studies NHS
I plan on taking the ACT and SAT again and have been studying a lot so hope to raise both. I’m also taking SAT II math and physics. Based on these scores what are my chances at UVA. I know it’ll be hard but do I at least have a fair chance? Also, should I even bother applying to UNC? It’s my dream school but probably unattainable and a waste of an application fee. Any input is greatly appreciated, thank you!

You are in the ballpark, which is all anyone can tell you right now. There is nothing wrong with having a few reach schools, as long as you have plenty of matches and safeties that you also could like.

An application fee is a small price to pay, particularly because it allows you to compare financial aid if you are offered admission. That extra $50 application fee may result in a university offering you a package that saves you tens of thousands of dollars, compared to another university. Since UNC-CH offers excellent financial aid to out of state students, it is well worth the application fee. Just recognize that the State of North Carolina has been trying to slash UNC’s budgets.

Hey there! I had very similar statistics, I’m from SC, and I got in. But like Charliesch said, all I can tell you is that you’ve got a chance. UVA is notorious for turning down people with high test scores and grades in favor of more well-rounded students with awesome essays and extracurriculars. I think if you write a solid and c

UNC is far easier to get into than UVA, so if you’re considering UVA, definitely apply to UNC. As far as your chances, I’m no expert, but I’d say UVA is a stretch, but not impossible, and you’d have a very solid chance at getting into UNC. Good Luck:)

Getting accepted to UNC from OOS is actually very difficult. The state of North Carolina limits the OOS students to 18%.

^ That is correct. Acceptance to UNC as an OOS student is very very difficult and is limited to 18%.

UNC is easier to get into in-state than UVA, but out-of-state not so much.

UNC-CH acceptance rate is 17% OOS, 52% IS.

UVA is 23% OOS and 43% IS.

W&M has a much smaller student enrollment than UVa. I’d suggest they increase the number of total seats at W&M to make many new spaces open for in-state students. UVa is already completing its fair share of an in-state enrollment increase.
