can i get into uva?

I am a junior
and i am currently taking
AP english lit/comp
AP compsci
Honors Chemistry.

Anyways.. i saw today that my weighted gpa was 2.679.
and im so mad and suprised that its so low.

Does anyone know how much it will increase to if i manage to get A's this year and next year?? cuz i really really really want to get into Universtiy of VA or UCLA..
and im from VA so my chances for va is better than ucla.

How the heck do you expect to get All A’s when you have made mostly C’s and some B’s since high school began?

while you should definitely aim for those straight As, keep in mind that realistically UVa and UCLA both are pretty far out of range for you. My advice would be to do some research and find some realistic schools that you would like.

Agreed. UVA and UCLA are virtually unrealistic choices for you, even with straight As for the rest of your education. Unless you have some reasoning for your low grades (death, sickness, etc.) then I wouldn’t bother applying.

Good luck

First off, what are the things that attract you to UVa and UCLA? If there are certain things you like about these schools (size, type of campus, etc) find schools that have similar characteristics that you’d be happy at.

You may not want to hear it, but if you feel like you’ve been struggling to get good grades in college, you would probably hate UVa a lot if you were a student here.

If you’re set on UVA and freshman admission is out of your reach, why not got to a VA community college for a year or two to prove yourself to them and then transfer? There may even be a few with an articulation agreement that if you meet a certain GPA you’ll be guaranteed admission (I don’t know this for sure so you’d have to research it). I think it’s something worth looking into and a lot of people do it, especially when part or all of their HS record is less than stellar.

I would concur that UCLA is very unrealistic for you, but I think the community college route could be your ticket into UVA, assuming you really apply yourself and pull a GPA above 3.0, along with more ECs and maybe some part-time employment to really round out your application and show them you know you made some poor choices in HS but you’ve turned it around. If you decide to go that route, be sure to use UVA’s transfer course recommendations to give yourself the best possible advantage when you finally apply for transfer.
