Can I get into Vanderbilt or NYU with a 3.64 cumulative gpa?

I have a 3.64 gpa

have taken 3 AP Classes

have taken 1 dual credit my sophomore year which was CHEM and planning on finishing two other dual credit classes my senior year

I ahem join multiple clubs most importantly beta club and debate team

im also an alumni my uncle went to Vanderbilt as an undergrad

Someone else will need to verify…but I don’t think an uncle is legacy status.

Will you be taking the SAT or ACT?

What year in high school are you now?

I would say no unless you are a recruited athlete.

Yes, just for your own edification going forward, you are possibly a legacy (you need to check if uncle qualifies); you are not an alumnus/alumna as you did not attend the school yourself (and alumni is the plural form).

Your GPA is on the low side - is there time to raise it? You’ve taken 3 AP classes - how many does your school offer? How many do the top students at your school typically take?

Clubs are good - any leadership positions? Awards? Any volunteering outside of school?

You are not currently in a very strong position - what can you do to change that in the time you have left before your application?

Is that 3.64 weighted or unweighted? Does it include core courses only or electives (like PE, Art, etc) too?

11% per cds had under a 3.75. So you’ll need something more like a high test score. Not an uncle.

It’s your reach. That’s ok. Find some targets and safeties too.

We toured Vanderbilt. Hard no on getting acceptance, with current stats. I can’t remember their legacy status, but even if they have any, it would be parent/sIbling/grandparent, not just an uncle.

It just seems like such a reach that I am not sure he should waste an ED application on it. It’s not just the GPA, it’s the low course rigor (at least per his post).

Only if the student gets accepted ED. When you apply Regular ED, you can apply to other colleges EA…you just can’t apply to any other colleges ED.

I think you might be thinking of REA or SCEA.

You can only apply to one school as ED. You can apply to other schools EA, but if you were to be accepted at your ED school, you must withdraw all other submitted applications and enroll in your ED school

Yea my error.

Ive done many hours of service all four years of high school. Ive also applied already and relaxing it on the low side. I have gotten a full ride to IU and have gotten into cincinati so far.

Ive taken 3 APS and college classes for credit. My school offer lots of AP credits but due to personal stuff wasn’t able to take all of them.

An uncle is legally status at Vanderbilt.

Im able to afford it and I applied to regular decision

I did not admit test scores. And I do have some safeties.

This is a weighted gpa unfortunately. and I do have key electives with 2 years of Spanish , art class, and PE

What does this mean??

If you are a senior and are awaiting admissions decisions…just wait.

You have a full ride to Indiana University?

@baileyw08

When you say you have a “full ride to IU”….are you talking about Indiana University or some other college.

Please clarify.

Congrats - that’s great! I do think Vanderbilt is a long shot for you, but that’s OK because you already have options. If Vandy does come through (anything is possible!), that will just be icing on the cake.

Great…did you get this. Congrats regardless of the award you received. Is it guaranteed for four years! If so…wonderful!

Just wait and see about Vandy. You have acceptances already, and you said they were affordable. So…just wait.
