What identifies a school as a match? being within or at the middle 50% of ACT scores?
Also, thank you all for the help. I know there is a low chance, I’m not in high hopes here. Vandys just a dream thats all.
Re: 20
No, being in the middle 50% is just one part of it. The other thing to consider is the acceptance rate of the round you’re applying in. (or, to simplify it, just the overall admit rate…)
First, let’s define what a match is. For the purposes of this illustration, let’s say a match is a school where you have a 40-60% chance of being admitted.
So let’s say your GPA and scores land you somewhere in the middle at Vandy. The overall admit rate is, what, 13%? So I’d say you’d have roughly that same percentage chance which makes it a reach.
Now, if your stats were average at, say, Syracuse (48% admit rate), I would call it a match.
@bud123 : I am actually going to agree with you on the grade inflation comment. I don’t know many grade deflated or particularly challenging schools with that many people in that bracket. Regardless Vanderbilt is a reach for the person. They should just try to apply and find out. They should not, however, expect anything (nor should anyone).
Bernie, I’m going to remember today!
