i figured out that i'm applying to columbia as my second stretch. do i have any chance?

It sucks that you're not in state...you would definitely have been in...don't you HATE that?!! Good luck!

Don't worry. You'll get in RD.

i think you have a good chance to get in RD if you keep the good grades, especially in the AP courses

(saxOphone =D)

Thanks for your optomistic responses. I wish I could be as sure as you that I'll get in RD. But I'm sure I do have a very good chance. And yes, I am really POd that I'm not in-state.

so, do i have any chance of getting into columbia? yes, i know it's a huge stretch.

hello? anyone?

Just curious: Why are you interested in W&M?

there are a few reasons. one of the main things i'm looking for in a college is a strong computer science program. at first, i ruled W and M out, because of their reputation as a school for learning how to write. but after i read a fantastic review in a very objective college review book that praised W and M's computer science program and overall college, i was sure that's where i wanted to go. and the quality of the tour and campus didnt degrade W and M in my mind either.

yhello? does anyone have thoughts on my appying to columbia? thanks in advance.

bump por favor.

c'mon. anyone?

Columbia is a stretch, but if you like it you should apply. I think that applications tend to get better with practice. Yours should be excellent by the time you apply!

thanks, i hope my app. does look better.

Your chances look pretty good to me...I was deferred from W&M too (in-state), and from what I've heard, getting in early was quite difficult this year. crosses fingers All we have to do is keep our grades up!

Which state are you applying from? That could have had something to do with it too.

i'm from ny, and i'm sure many people applied from here. but how are you in-state when you're profile says you're from d.c.?

I'm from the Virginia suburbs of D.C., though I usually just tell people I'm from Washington because it takes too long explaining that "Washington" actually encompasses more than just the District. There is a rather large difference between Northern and Southern Virginia.

Most of W&M's out-of-staters come from New York/New Jersey, so I wouldn't feel bad that you got deferred. You're in the toughest position when it comes to admissions.

Duke is going to be a super reach for you. Washington and Lee, Wake Forest, Vanderbilt, Tulane, Furman and Davidson are some reasonable choices. You are looking good with the safeties, but College of Charleston, Elon, Mary Washington are also good consideration.
