While I won’t address the “chance me” request, I want to answer your question about how to apply to Rochester. (Ethically, as an Admissions Counselor, I don’t and won’t chance people. Other parents/students will probably chime in!)

Last year, there were 3 ways to apply to the University of Rochester: Early Decision, Early Notification, and Regular Decision. See this old post for details: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-rochester/1214786-early-notification-en.html</a>

Changes are on the horizon.

Early Notification is going to be called “Priority Review” during the 2012-2013 application cycle. I will highlight the details of Priority Review in the near future after our Dean of Admissions clarifies this new application process. For now, please understand that the University of Rochester lacks an “Early Action” route. Instead, you could apply via Early Decision, “Priority Review”, or Regular Decision. The application deadlines for each category are November 1st, December 1st, and January 1st, respectively.

The philosophy behind Priority Review will mirror the Early Notification process last year: Priority Review (PR) is not binding. By applying through PR, you identify yourself as being serious about your academic career and well matched for Rochester’s admitted student profile. As a PR applicant, you will receive your admissions decision earlier than regular decision applicants, therefore you must submit your entire application by December 1.

Last year, we received a very large portion of our applications through Early Notification. To prevent this from escalating, the “Priority Review” applicants will have to complete an extra step in order to receive an admissions decision before Regular Decision applicants. I will clarify this extra step soon.

Additionally, anyone applying to our Combined-Admissions Programs (CAPS) or our Dual Degree Programs ([University of Rochester : College Admissions](http://enrollment.rochester.edu/admissions/caps/)) will have to be either an Early Decision applicant, or a Regular Decision applicant. Due to the pure volume of files that we receive, the CAPS and Dual Degree Decisions were very difficult to make in early February, so we are not allowing anyone to apply to these programs as a “Priority Review” applicant. Please note, ED students will still hear about their general admission by December 15th, but Regular Decision CAPS applicants won’t have their decisions until April 1st at the latest.

I’m sure that this response was more than you needed to hear Kyle, but it seemed like a good time to address our upcoming application avenues.

The short answer: you cannot apply “early action”, but a “Priority Review” option is coming down the pipeline this summer.
