Can I get out of my housing contract?

So I found a couple of guys who need someone else to join them and I'd prefer it to the dorm I'm currently in but I was wondering if I could get out of my contract before winter quarter starts (So I can move in w/ them in January). Also, my reasoning would be that I'm out of state and could save tons of $$ by renting an apartment as opposed to staying in a dorm. Thoughts on if they would accept this reasoning and, if so, by the start of winter quarter? Thanks.

probably... but it'll cost you $300 to terminate your housing contract.
$150 for termination of the contract, and a $150 late cancellation fee because you'd be cancelling after october 16 for winter quarter.
it's all in the housing contract fine print.

When I was in my dorm, my neighbors across the hall tried to cancel their contract by used the reasoning about how it was cheaper for them to live in an apartment. As a result, they were unable to cancel their contract.

I think it's easier to just say you can't pay it anymore. They can't really turn you
down in that case.

Talk to your RD!!!!
