Can I get scholarships before I'm even in my senior year?

I'm going into my senior year of highschool and I'm planning on attending college in my near future. I really need scholarships and it's awesome (I've recently learned) that you can obtain more than one scholarship. That would be very helpful in my situation. So I've been learning about these scholarships I can apply to online by submitting essays. Some of these scholarships include writing poetry or just writing about myself.

Is this a good idea?

Is it worth it to write those essays?

Will it really help in the long run?

Has anyone else done this?

Any information would help & be appreciated.

Thanks :)

I have done that and I received a good amount of scholarships. This will be my first semester in college and I believe that I will only have a good bit of money left over because of the scholarships I received my senior year.

Besides usually you have a better chance at those scholarships because others don't put out the time to do them.

Yes, it's a very good idea.

Even if you don't win, it's good practice for application essays and will polish up you writing skills.

If you do win, then it's great! Plus, if you get word before you apply to college, you can mention them on your college apps AND senior year scholarship applications.

Really, it's a win-win situation, other than the time-factor - it does take time to enter them

I'm sure most of the people on CC enter essay/poetry contests. I've entered a few, and plan to enter more this year.

Thank you :)
