Hi! I’m going to apply next year, but before I do, I would just like to know statistics. Like how many students are accepted into their MT program each year and how many applicants do they receive? Also what is their training like? Is there someone I could talk to about this?
Hi there @Broadwayboy48. My D is a current sophomore MT major at Hartt and I can try to help you with some answers. The exact stats are hard to come by. Last time i was aware (2 years ago), they had about 900 audition (they are not a pre-screen school, so they tend to have high numbers) but I do not know how many they accept. They aim for a class size of 24, but my daughter’s class has around 40 because more enrolled than they usually see. I have heard they have cut back on how many they accept in the last 2 years and have started using a waitlist, which was something they had not done prior to my D’s “bubble” class.
The training is excellent, and my D is very happy. They have added staff and shows to make sure all students have adequate opportunities, even with the bigger enrollment. It has been a great place for my D, and I hope you will check it out and apply!
My daughter is a freshman MT this year. They started with 23 MTs this year I believe. As stated above the current sophomore class is larger than average because of a high acceptance rate for offers that year. My daughter was a serious MT student and performer her whole life and feels the training is top notch. Very music heavy, and starting next year they’re revamping how they assign students to dance levels to make sure everyone is training to their appropriate level. I can’t say enough about what an incredible experience my daughter has had at Hartt this year. Can’t wait to see how next year goes!
