i recently got rejected with these stats from ucsd and i really want to appeal.

i called and found out i have 7214/7426 in the ucsd point system.

3.6 uw gpa and 3.9 w gpa.
1750 sat score 680m 550w 520cr (yea low =[ )
690 math 2c
690 bio
major: electrical engineering 2nd: applied mathematics
EC: i have tennis, piano, church volunteering (4yrs), 3 jobs(4yrs for all).
essays: they were truly me and all me. I am very proud of them. however, they aren’t outstanding and original.

i wanted to appeal with the following:
key club, csf, club-med(volunteering club). i quit these after soph year because of personal/time reasons and i never included it in my app. i also want to talk about a hardship with my cousin’s deadly accident. he has been sitting in the hospital with a diffuse axonal injury and can only move his left eye and leg… Lastly, i want to include taking summer community college classes if it would help fulfill more a-g reqs.

does anyone have any suggestions? i really would like to ace this appeal. thanks in advance!

jas0n, did they give you a breakdown on your point system? i have basically the same stats as you but my score was 7299/7426. I couldn't get the breakdown from them. I missed ELC by 1%, otherwise I would have had an additional 300 points.

yea i was 1% away from getting ELC at my school. they didn't give me a good breakdown...she seemed to not be able to read her computer screen or something. anyway, i think i got full community service points, but i lacked any leadership and awards (well appealing awards at least). i also didn't have strong hardships, extra a-g classes, points for uneducated parents or having low income. my friend says my hardship and clubs will get me those 200 points i need to get in.

The UC schools can be very generous w/ appeals, or so I've heard. Can you maybe get another recommendation from a teacher or a member of the administration (principal, v.p., etc.)? My friend appealed last year and included that in her updated information. She ended up getting into UCLA as a result. I'm so sorry to hear about your cousin. I definitely feel your pain... Last Thanksgiving, one of my cousins died tragically in a kayaking incident in North Carolina.

sadly, i have been receiving terrible grades during my 7th semester. it is 3.2 unweighted and 4.2 weighted. i don't think they weight last semester T_T...mine are a bunch of Bs. anyway, i'm in a program where i attend high school on a community college campus. here's a list of my schedule by semester.
ap gov't
ap literature
general physics 2a (college)
honors physiology

calc 1 (college)

ap macroecon
ap lit
eng1a (college)
intro to philosophy (college)
honors physiology
calc 2 (college)

i've been affected by college rejections lately (only got into uci) and feel like i'm going to end up with aournd a 3.5uw/4.5 w 8th semester... i hope takign summer CC classes will help me get in T_T.

EE is an impacted major at UCSD. Very unlikely you could be admitted on appeal.
Applied Math, maybe, but your SAT I and II math scores are not consistent with those of a Math major.

By the way, there's nothing shabby about being an Anteater. A lot of applicants envy your admission to UCI.

Best of luck, and work your hardest to finish strong.

i believe, because of the point system, the inconsistencies of my sat scores do not matter as long as i surpass the threshold of points. my second major is not impacted so there should be no problems there. i hear ucsd accepts you before they place you in your major. i love ucsd's admissions xD. they have great support too...you can't call many other UCs and ask them about "points." i do understand what you note about anteaters, but i have a personal reason why i don't truly want to go to uci.

btw, are there any suggestions on what i can add to appeal?

I'm really sorry about your cousin, but I don't think that you are going to get any points for yout cousin's unfortunate condition unless this somehow affected your performance in school or your ability to participate in EC's. Unless you can show that it negatively impacted your grades or something, they might even think that you included it for the express purpose of trying to win sympathy points (I know this isn't your intention, but they could perceive it as this). They will think "What does this have to do with anything?".

dude...how could it not affect his performance in school or his ability to participate in ECs. If my cuz was liek that **** school and **** ECs. This is your cousin, family.

thefizzle656: yea this is the reason why i posted for help. i wanted to talk about what i faced after my cousin had his deadly accident. i don't plan to revolve my appeal around it, but i would like to talk about him to show my passion for pursuing a goal or getting an education, something he now cannot do.

safewayrules: 8588220790 is the main office number. you can transfer by pressing 03 but the message repeats. the direct number is 8585344831. during the peak times, it is really busy and you will not be queued (you'll get the busy tone). make sure you add a 1 at the begining of the numbers haha.
