My GPA isn't too great, and my junior year is almost over. It isn't terrible. OK, maybe it is? I'll hopefully end up with a 1.8-2.0. (2.0 I hope.) I know I screwed up, but if I do well on the ACT and write a good essay and stuff can I get into college still?

Unless you have some really really amazing reason for having that gpa I would suggest that you attend a community college first to help prepare you for a 4 year university and transfer after a year or two.

You might be able to go to UC Merced if you have good EC’s.

You need 2.0 just to go to community college, I believe. Sorry. :(

I thought you just needed a high school diploma ^?

Really? In California I believe that you need a 2.0. I could be wrong though. Also, does a D count as passing?

Isn’t everyone entitled to a CC education as long as they have at least a GED.

In most states you just have to pass a community college entrance exam. Most states you dont HAVE to have a HS diploma. GO to community college and do your best if you like then transfer. Good Luck!

In NJ there are no requirements for CC, but you have to take an AccuPlacer to be assigned certain class levels for your courses.

But to answer your question…
Can you get into a regular college? Highly unlikely.
Is it even worth your time? Absolutely not.

For you, the college application process will be a complete hassle for no reason. If accepted to a college, it might be a complete waste of money, because there is no telling how well you will do. The classes will be expensive, and it’s a gamble. Why even bother?
Just start off at a good CC, do well on the placement test, and get your things in order. Classes there will be much cheaper, and it will be a fresh start.
There’s no where to go but up.
GL!

You might have a chance at going to a university that isn’t known for having high academic expectations to get into their school. Having great SAT and ACT scores and good extracurriculars will help your chances. What I advise is wait until the end of your first semester of your senior year before applying to schools so you will have a chance to boost your GPA.

Community college, in my area, is open to anyone. It doesn’t matter WHAT your gpa is.
