Just looking for some recommendations. In algebra 1 I had a 96 final average and I got a 94 on the regents, in Algebra 2/Trig (I live in New York) I had an 96 class average (my teacher gave a lot of ridiculous extra credit) and an 87 regents score, and I'm currently taking geometry (Junior year). I'm not an expert math student by any means, but I have been getting generally 90s on all of my geometry stuff this year. Last year was very hard because the course was new and the regents that was given was the first of the course and the teachers were all very confused... but that said, I spoke with some people and I heard the fundamental difference between BC and AB is that BC is taught at a faster pace than AB. Thanks, any recommendations I'd appreciate.

It’s hard to tell from your grades, which will depend on the rigor of your classes, but you seem to be prepared for Calculus AB.
Out of all the APs, AP Calculus AB is (in my mind) one of the easier AP classes, and the curve is more generous than some.
I definitely recommend taking it. I took AB in one year, then BC the next.

Doesn’t your school require you to take precalc or trig before calc?

^ He did take trig. But I’m not sure why he didn’t take pre-calc.

I’m a very good math student and a bright straight-A student in general, and even I feared going into Calc AB. But it’s really not bad. Just pay attention in class and do your homework when you feel like you don’t completely understand something. I feel out of place because there’s only one other junior in the class and all the seniors are making Cs and Ds on the tests while the other junior and I are making high As.

It’s not as bad as it sounds. If you’re generally good at math (forget your grades; only you know how good you are at math) and you like it, then go for it!

Also, another difference between AB and BC is that BC consists of some additional material/concepts as well. The curriculum for the two courses isn’t identical. If they were, there wouldn’t be two separate exams.

If you took alg 2/ trig then chances are youll be ready for calc. you dont learn much in geometry that will be important for you in the long run. Alg2/trig is very similar to pre calc

BC is pretty much the same as AB except that it goes more in depth with a few of the topics and has about 3 extra chapters of completely different material. It’s enough to have two different classes but not enough to make people take AB before BC (alot of people go from pre-calc/trig to BC.) I’m in AB right now as a junior and I’m struggling. But I’m not a math person, my textbook is not all that helpful, and my teacher is in a teaching rut (she’s taught it so long she’s lost her edge, nice person though.) I think you should be fine. I was freaked out about the class too and found out it’s just advanced algebra with graphs. Just make sure if you start struggling you have some sort of help (mine is Calculus for Dummies). Go for it.
