Can I handle this?

I'm a new mechanical engineering student. I'm planning on tacking EGR 53, ICS 102C, which is world military history, POLSCI 93D, which is intro to international relations, EGR 10, and Chem. how hard am I going to have to work?

Well, I don't know you so I can't really say. But that schedule sounds typical of engineers. (Actually, as long as that is chem 21 not 151 I'd say that sounds easier than my first semester) Really I think that is a solid choice in classes though I am wondering why you aren't taking a math course. (get 'em done early! I know I am happy I no longer have to worry about math)

Why no math first semester? Just curious, what are you placing into? I'm a mechE freshman, too.

I thought you usually had to have a math first semester unless you had a talk with the dean? I tried to not do a math first semester and had to call up Dean Simmons an hour before registration opened to try to fit a section in. Good luck with that.

i would advise against taking PolSci 93D if it is with prof. grieco. I took that class 1st semester my freshman year, it was horrible. It's a great subject (i m a PolSci major) but Grieco kills that class. avoid him at all costs

good luck getting into that poli sci class

Take a math

SBR really? we have to have a math? what if we have credit for math 31, and 32??

If you are an engineer, it is highly recommended that you take math. That's probably because engineers need to take up to math 108 plus stats 113 and a lot of the engineering classes have math classes as pre-requisites. Either way, you should plan to take a math every semester for the first year if you are an engineer.

Even if you have credit for 31 and 32 I would go ahead and start the maths. Getting them out of the way can save you scheduling headaches later should you need 107 or 108 for a class and not have it. (you sometimes have to move classes around in the "advised" schedule order and flexability here can really save you some headaches)

for the polsci 93D it says instructor eldridge or feaver. and i wasnt taking a math becuase i might do this schedule or i might do focus, and dean simmons said i should do focus chem and engineering 53. but i guess i should have math 32L in there anyways. I did ok in math, i mean i dont remember all that much but i took the AP BC exam and did pretty well, im guessing i got a 3, maybe a 4. should i take 32?

should i drop the polsci or the history of warfare?

If you got a 3 on the calc BC exam then you need to take Math 32 or 41 because you won't get credit for it. As for doing focus, chem, and EGR53, you could conceivably not take EGR53 and instead take EGR21 (? 20 or 21 I forget which) in the spring, which should also count in place of EGR53 though I'd double check that with Dean Simmons first.

...or you could just do EGR53 in the spring...and no EGR20 does not count for EGR53, EGR20 is like an introduction to mechanical engineering stuff
