I am in the middle of my senior year. At this point it is a waste of time, and I am miserable. I am only shy of 2 credits for English. I really want to homeschool or somehow do independent studies so that I can start community college early. As well as work more than I already am to save up. I am an A student who has taken multiple AP classes. Is this possible? Please help, much appreciated.
Have you applied to colleges? If you have sent in a prospective second semester list of courses to colleges, they will want the to know the change. That’s at the very least. You might want to talk to your GC about this and what the ramifications of such a move are. It is possible, but you need to know whether your high school will give you a degree, how colleges on your list will perceive this, etc, etc. Have you talked to your parents about this? You need very specific info, not a general answer. Which is “Yes”, but the results and consequences can vary depending on your personal situation.
I have applied and been accepted to colleges. Although I am still unsure of whether I am attending junior college or not. I have talked to my parents and they are on board. is it a bad thing to make such a change?
Since you are halfway through a year (and possibly into a semester), you will almost definitely be unable to get the paperwork to file as a homeschooler done in time. In CA, an R4 is necessary to register as a private school (independent homeschool), and that has to be done in spring or summer before the year you want to homeschool.
I strongly recommend looking into the rules and paperwork for being a homeschooler in the state you are in.
Also, could you see if your school would let you dual enroll before you graduate? If not, and you’re sure you want to go to a junior/community college, just take fewer classes this semester and find an activity you enjoy, and relax.
I’m sorry that you’re not enjoying your school, and that I couldn’t be more helpful. Good luck!
As a home school parent, the first thing I would do is contact the colleges that accepted to and see what their admission counselors think. If you take community college classes after you graduate, some colleges will consider you a transfer and you won’t be eligible for freshman scholarships.
