So I am seriously considering going to Ole Miss but I have my doubts with me being Hispanic and being discriminated because I seriously want to rush and join a good frat but I do understand why (I’m not a baby so i don’t really get offended by a confederate flag). Although, all my friends going to ole miss are white and will be rushing too but I have no clue if that helps or not. Please help it would be great if I could get an opinion from a former student that participate in greek life.
P.S. - I understand the University has taken great leaps and strides to eliminate racism but I know that it is not the student body but the Alumni that will sometime pull funding from the frat if someone like me is accepted.
you will be fine going through rush. The school is leaps and bounds from the 60’s racial tensions. Just pick a house that you can see yourself fitting in. There are a lot of great houses. That is folklore regarding the alumni boards, once the national headquarters gets wind of any of that going on, there are huge sanctions that come down on the house. Not true.
@gonoles4343 Agree with upperarlington. There are black, hispanic, asian, indian, gay, nonresident, disabled and any other type of label you want to place members of Ole Miss fraternities. Find the one that’s right for you and you’ll be just fine!
@gonoles4343 Most people in this part of the world do not consider Hispanics “nonwhite.” If you have a lot of Anglo friends that you hang around with, you sound like you’re just an all-American guy of Hispanic extraction. That’s all you need.
You don’t have a super-heavy accent or anything like that, do you?
