Can I Just Put My ACT/SAT Scores on my Transcript?

I have seen some colleges stating to either…

  1. Send official score reports from ACT/SAT, or
  2. Put the scores on the official transcript.

Number two being the case, do I even need to send an official score report? I’d like to save money in the application process. Also, is there a list of colleges offering number two choice?

You need to check with each school. Most schools require an official score report. And YOU don’t put the scores on the transcript. That would be done by your guidance office.

That’s true except in the case of homeschooled students. I provided the transcript, guidance counselor letter, textbook list, course descriptions, and school profile, so I could have listed the test scores. The only outside documentation came from our district superintendent (a letter certifying completion of a program substantially equivalent to a NYS high school education), letters of recommendation, transcripts for summer college courses, and official score reports from the College Board.

I encourage homeschool families to have the CB send official test results because so much of the app is generated by us. I think it’s helpful to have outside documentation.

^ Thanks for that info. I would think schools would require the official scores in that case.
