I am a resident of Michigan, and thus UMich seems the obvious choice. However, I visited Madison and fell in love with the atmosphere of the campus. I prefer UW for this reason, but at x2 the tuition, it seems hard to justify attending UW when UMich is an equal caliber school, Ann Arbor isn't bad either, just not Madison.

Gut says UW, Brain says UM

Thoughts?

I’d use the brain unless you win the Lotto.

You will fall in love with either school once you are there so go with the financially sensible decision unless you and your parents have the extra money you want to give to Wisconsin. At this time you can consider yourself infatuated with Madison and months later realize there are many schools to love. Move forward and have no regrets.

If you got into Michigan and only have to pay instate tuition to attend, the choice is obvious. If you love Madison that much you can set your sights on one of UW’s many good graduate programs. It’s only four years away.
