How can I justify the cost of Georgetown MSB to my parents. The cost appears to be roughly 200k for the four years for undergrad. My other option would be University of Georgia Honors program. It appears their Terry College of business is of equivalent rank for what that is worth. With the hope scholarship in Georgia, 4yrs would be roughly 40k at most. Is the experience in DC going to be worth an extra 160k? I hate this. Does someone have a crystal ball?

hey i am in the exact same situation, and even with all of the people telling me how great Georgetown and MSB are, it is hard for me to make a decision to spend as much money per year at G-town as i would for 4 years at UGA.

The best way to justify it would be to cite the proximity to huge firms that could offer you great internships and job opportunities once you graduate from MSB. I doubt the same kinds of opportunities exist in Athens, although it's a great place.

If I were in your situation, I would probably choose the cheaper school-- if anything, for my parents' sake. The truth is, wherever you go, be it Devry or Harvard, you are going to have a great college experience. I know people who have gone to Georgetown and people who have gone to the University of Georgia, and both have absolutely loved their college experiences. There are ups and downs to both schools, in terms of academics, social life, etc. At a school like UGA you could really stand out academically, whereas at Georgetown it might be harder to be at the top of your class. You might have better connections at Georgetown, but then again, it really all depends on how you play your cards. If money weren't an issue, I'd tell you to go to Gtown because it is higher ranked, has more prestige, and presumably more opportunities for internships, etc... but then again, graduating at the top of your class from the University of Georgia would look even better. Good luck... no matter where you end up next year, I know you'll both be happy :)

The daughter of one of my father's friends is at Gtown right now......it's costing him $70,000 a year to send her there because housing isn't guaranteed for 4 years (and she insists on living in Georgetown). Georgetown might be more expensive than you'd think without financial aid.

UGA is less than an hour away from Atlanta, you're not going to have trouble finding internships if you are a hard worker and go to UGA (honors).

In my opinion, 4 years in DC is not worth 160k if you could get the same education in Athens (and with business, I'm sure it's similar), but if you know you wont be happy at UGA (too big, public, not enough diversity, ect.) then you should go to Georgetown, despite the high costs. It's definitely something to talk over with your parents, though.
