can i learn statistics in Oberlin?

Hello guys
I am thinking about applying to Oberlin college, and I am interested in statistics.
I found this page on Oberlin’s website, and it does have a “statistical method” section.

However, I am not sure what that means. Is statistical method a minor or a major in Oberlin?
Also, if I major in math, can I have a concentration on statistics? Does Oberlin offer a decent amount of stats classes?
Anyone who is currently majoring in math? Can anyone give me some thoughts?

You can find answers to your questions on the Math department website (http://new.oberlin.edu/arts-and-sciences/departments/mathematics/ ) and the majors handbook, linked from that page.

Stats is not a minor, major, or concentration offered at Oberlin. Looking at the course catalog these seem like your options:

You could major in math which takes 9 courses including Discrete Math, Multivariable Calc, Linear Algebra, Foundations of Analysis, Group Theory, and one other 300+ level math course, and then to max out your stats courses you could take Stats and Modeling, Bayesian Computation and Mathematical Statistics.

To minor in math you need 5 courses, so you could take Stats and Modeling, Bayesian Computation, Mathematical Statistics, and a 200 level math course and a 300 level math course.

Also depending on your high school background there might be other into courses you need to take (e.g. Intro to Stats, Calc 1/2) but they don’t count for the major or minor.

I don’t know much about the Math department but people generally seem happy with it and enjoy their courses.
