When I applied, I only applied for H&SS and got in. But now I'm not sure if I only want to do one major. If I want to major (or minor) in business, is it still possible?

I was wondering the same thing and posted the question earlier. Someone responded and said that we can only request our major from the particular school for now and later during our freshman year we can request to minor in something outside of the major we originally indicated.

Yes, you can major in a secondary school. However, that’s a little ways down the line, so for now focus on your primary major and getting through your first semester. :)

A secondary major in Business is very common.

You can pretty much minor in anything-- only a very small number of programs have restrictions.

Head to the course catalog on the CMU website and review degree requirements for your intended major and those for your minor. YOu’ll probably find that there are many courses that will fulfill (double count) both the major and minor. It’s also common to be in a tech major and pick up an HSS or Music minor-- and basically since you need 8 classes of General Education electives-- with careful planning- pick those that are required for the HSS (or other) minor.

Most degree programs have lots of room for even more than one minor.
Head to the catalog and degree requirements and sort of plan out the first 2-3 semesters to see how it plays out. If you have many AP credits, you can even plan on earning an MS in your fourth year in your major.

You’ll hear from your assigned freshman advisor sometime in May.

If you want to see potential courses/schedules for Fall, you can do so at this link. Use the drop down for Fall 2011 and see what’s offered by department. Pretty much every major requires you to take a General Education Elective freshman year-- either fall or spring – so that’s an opportunity to explore and enjoy something very different from your major.
