i'm currently a 2nd-year at UCLA, my GPA is decent (above 3.5), and i'm very involved on campus with several leadership positions already and i'm doing an internship at a big corporation this summer. i was wondering first, can i make it into the big consulting firms from UCLA at all, and if so, what should i do to improve my resume? what if i told you my major is going to be something along the lines of political science or global studies (and not business economics)? thanks!

anybody with any ideas about consulting? thanks

i guess............................

i dont know the answer to your question........hopefully someone will help...

incidently,

i think industrial engineering is probably the best undergraduate major to pursue if you are an aspiring consultant(in terms of it being the most related to what consultants do-at least from the research ive done)........of course im not saying you cant get a consulting job without having a degree in industrial engineering......im just saying it will probably help you the most ( again - i just read this on some university website)

and i mean why not take a degree that is associated with consulting?....you know?......that way your undersgrraduate degree doesnt go to waste.........

industrial engineering is a good major but it definitely is not the best for consulting...there really isn't a single major that is the best. All engineering, econ, finance, management, etc. majors are great for consulting.

industrial engineering is no closer related to consulting than econ...if anything finance & especially management are more closely related to consulting...hence it's called management consulting (strategy consulting).

maybe i should've said the best "engineering" major.......

You would certainly have a shot. Hiring is not as robust as it was a few years ago and the undergrads with the best shot have majors in specific areas where the foirms have work. Engineering for work with technology companies BME for work with biotech, etc. An all around bright, able candidate from UCLA will certainly be considered.
