Greetings All-
I’d sincerely appreciate a honest response regarding my pending freshman application for the
upcoming fall term at UF. Please review my high school academic record and provide me with any feedback you seem fit to provide. Up to this point, I have been declined by UCF & FSU & FIU & USF.
GPA 3.88 / University Of Florida weighed 4.42
SAT best 2090
ACT best 31
Class rank 7/355
The usual stuff regarding volunteer work and hopefully I submitted a great essay. The only drawback was in the summer of 10th grade. I spent some time at Alachua Regional Juvenile Detention Center for a charge that was dropped because I had a great attorney. I believe this charge was the problem with the other schools and probably why I wasn’t accepted. For the University Of Florida application, I didn’t submit this information and my attorney told me that they probably won’t find out. Any suggestions are much appreciated. Should I tell Florida if it is going to mess me up and since all charges were dropped???
Since I picked up the L&L charge during the summer, my school never found out and this information was expunged from my criminal record and I think that my honesty is screwing me up.

1) Did you tell all the schools that rejected you about the charges pressed?

2) How did UF phrase the question was it like “have you ever been convicted…” Or was it like “Have you ever been charged with a misdemeanor or penalty”?

Yes sir, I honestly told all the schools rejected at that I was incarcerated, I told them the nature of the charge and although I told them that the charges were dropped, I still think this honesty on my part killed my chances. Thus for Florida, I just failed to mention this information.
According to both my criminal and family attorney, they told me the following.
- Not to lie…
- My record has been expunged.
- The schools will never be able to inquire about this information.
- Most importantly, a family member with a history of problems blamed me and I got arrested based on her word and only after the state realized that my accuser was unbalanced, then they released me.
- This entire fiasco cost my parents a lot of money and I really want to attend college (FLORIDA)and this way I think by attending Florida I can prove to my family that I
appreciated their support. - My family attorney told my family that I could not sue the accuser since her family has no real money.
- My family attorney is the process of settling the case with the homeowners insurance company of the accusers family for false arrest and I will use this money to pay back my parents and to pay for tuition.

I can’t believe you were rejected from FIU with a 2000 SAT.

I can assure you it was because you decided to confess the information about the arrest. The honesty killed you.

As long as you didn’t lie on your application, I don’t see a point in telling UF.

Gl to you man, no matter what happens you will be successful in life, I can tell you are facing the consequences head on and that shows you have a good sense of responsibility. Many other people would have just life to all those universities…

P.s - you don’t have to call me sir I’m guessing we are both high school seniors :p

Does anyone know how big of a factor having a misdemeanor on record can be in admissions? I have a small one on record from 3 years ago and I told UF about it, but I was very honest and in the explanation I wrote about how I learned a lot from it.
I never went to court or anything though…and I did a lot of community service and have done some other big extracurricular stuff since then (leadership camps, I was an exchange student, pre-college programs in the summers). My explanation got through FSU’s judicial committee and UCF didn’t day anything about it either.

But this post freaked me out a bit. Does anyone think I will be effected by this?

Look it didnt work with the schools that you were up front with.

I would just keep quiet. And if UF ever asks? Just tell them they never asked.

That is the way I see it.

If I were you I would just lie and by the way don’t all criminals lie anyways? By the way isn’t L and L a sex charge ? Won’t Florida find out when they find your picture on the side of the milk carton ?

If your record was expunged then it means that a court has looked at the circumstances and declared that it should have no influence whatsoever on your future. In effect the court has stated that this event never happened, so you are perfectly correct in not mentioning it in your application.

I believe that you will be accepted as your stats are all very good and well within the UF profile. I agree with what ROGRACER has to say about your situation. By the way, do you remember how the UF application asked about situations such as this? was it have you been convicted or was it have you been charged? Charged and convicted are very different things!

In the event that you do not get into UF have you come up with your backup plan? Florida has plenty of other state schools where you could spend a semester or year and then transfer to UF. They are not bad options. It is always good to know what your “Plan B” is going to be.

His honesty got him rejected from all the state schools ^^^

Ps - ignore “ilovethe47” he likes to make other people feel bad

^^^ OP has NOT applied and been rejected at ALL of the state schools in Florida!
OP needs to come up with a back up plan that includes other state schools such as Florida Gulf Coast, Santa Fe College, Valencia College, Palm Beach State and the like! Plenty of Florida students start out at other Florida state schools and then transfer to UF or FSU. This is something the OP needs to consider as a back up plan.

I thank everyone (except the love person) and I apologize for not making my point clearer. All the other major state public schools that I have already applied have rejected me and I did mention my incarceration to those schools. Now, during the application process for Florida, I did not mention anything and I truly hope that I can make it as a Gator one day. Additionally, @ UMiami, I was accepted, but again I didn’t mention anything. Unfortunately, we cannot afford UMiami so that’s why I am waiting on a decision from Florida. One last point, I have just learned that the accuser’s insurance company will settle out of court for the false arrest and after paying my attorney and paying back my parents, I will be left with 23,000, which is almost the exact tuition for a four year degree at Florida. KARMA! Thank you very much for your understanding.

I’ll bet anything the REAL reason this kid is being rejected by every school he applies to and states the truth is that he wasn’t arrested for a minor misdemeanor, but for a major felony like sexual battery. And this kid still wonders why he is being rejected? I really hope that UFL finds out about the lies you put on your application and kicks you out of school.

Your right sportsmom I didn’t consider those alternatives just FSU, UCF, FIU. The schools you mentioned are good choices and its not where you start it’s where you finish…

Hope - congratulations on the settlement that’s great news!! How did you already get into UM tho? I thought decisions were in February

It seems like your off in the case, but in the application, the wording requires your honesty. I don’t want to scare you, but people have had their degrees and licenses revoked for simply lying in their admissions applications and getting caught. I have no idea how colleges and the government catch people, but like all say: its not where you begin, but where you finish.

Its a better story being poor and succeeding to be rich than to begin rich and die rich.

Aside from this, your stats will get you in UF. Go Crocodiles!

@Corn&teethless-
YOU SAID-
“Aside from this, your stats will get you in UF. Go Crocodiles”
I SAY-
Your grades may get you into UFL, but your pe**s will keep you out!

UM is a great school medically and generally speaking. But engineering/business wise, uf is the way to go. Same thing with journalism.

And OP, just ignore ilovethe47. She’s not very kind to everyone here
