For the commapp I want to do my essay on the fictional character who has influeced me. I wanted to do Frodo or Aragorn from the Lord of the Rings. Ask anyone, I'm obsessed with LOTR, but I want to know if it's possible to pull this off or if it's a lost cause

why not? it'll be an interesting read. Just don't say that the influence is "a passion for casting magic spells".

lol it's not. it's about what i learned from one of those characters and kind of the personal journey over 3 years that I went and how one of those characters kind of mirrors my own expeirences

well it answers the prompt, and it tells something about you. what else do you want? ;) anyway i don't quite often see essays about LOTR (but then again, i'm always the ignorant toad who sits in one dark corner of the world...) >.<

I think if you are an inspirational writer, it DEfinetly will work! I read a book once.. I think it was called "50 essays of students that got accepted to harvard" something along that line.. and in one of an essay, the student talked basically about his curly hair, and how it changed the way he thought.

u can write abt anything from a grain of salt to the dandruf in hair./as long as the topic has something cool to convey abt u ......

I agree with smartmind. Whom you pick to write about is not as important as what the essay says about you.

Exactly....and as we have seen already.........some wonderful esaays accepted were just as weird
