Can I not be considered for admission?

A few months ago, back in September, I had this crazy idea to apply to the University of Chicago. I gave forms to my math and english teacher. A few weeks later, I opted not to apply. My english teacher had not yet sent the rec, but my math teacher. So, theoretically, from that moment, the UChicago had created a file for me.

As of yesterday, I've decided I want to apply again. However, I'm on winter break and cannot get all application materials sent in by the 2nd of January. I can have my scores, application, and essay all mailed by the 2nd, but I CANNOT get the english rec, transcript, and school profile mailed until the week of January 7th...

Can I possibly still be considered for admission? I emailed UofC this same question, but given its the holiday season, most admission offices are closed at this time. I doubt I will receive an answer soon. The other issue is that I'm leaving on vacation on the 27th, and will not be near telephones, computers, or any modern communicative technology for a while. This means I will be mailing my application, regardless of an answer, by the 26th.

Do you think I can still apply? Is it even worth it?

hmm, I am in a similar situation, lol. I would guess under these circumstances its not worth it, I doubt they'll take so much late but who knows.

If you're anything like me, you didn't think you had even close to the stats to get in, weren't looking forward to the rejection letter, and opted to save that poor wasted 60 dollar fee. If that is the case, perhaps you are better off because these years aps went up a ton and rejections and deferrals are being thrown left and right.

If you just didn't know if it was the "right school", I'm sure you've applied to other schools that will better suit you and you're more confident that you will thrive in. Don't worry, there's probably more than one "right college" for you, and there are colleges similar to the U of C you may have applied to (who hopefully are cheaper???)

I'm actually the former, but I just can't get past the fact that UChicago has all the majors I want in one place (IR, East Asian Studies, Linguistics, Psychology.)

There's just so much opportunity there...

All of the letters they receive don't get all sorted and filed in one day. That process takes a long time, and typically schools are a bit more lenient about items that teachers or the school submit. I don't imagine there would be any serious problem.

Write them a cover letter saying just what you said here -- that you thought about applying, had doubts, but decided you really want to apply, and that you'll get the other stuff in as soon as your school reopens. I would be shocked if you have a problem.

i doubt you'll have a problem... they don't even open up your files way after the deadline, so they tend to be flexible for those kind of stuffs... just make sure you send "your" part of the application at the right time

won't be a problem if your counselor or teacher stuff arrives within 1 week late. as long as you get your uncommon app submitted.

Like others have said, dont worry about it, should not be a problem. I sent in my apps for other schools and decided not to apply (after Jan 1 too) and they sent me an email in mid Jan asking me to re-send my applications since they havent recieved it. You should be ok.

The deadline is for the materials over which you have control - your application. Very often, other materials arrive shortly after the deadlines. Don't worry about it. (And don't write the cover letter - there's no reason any school needs to hear about your vaccilation or your thought processes.)

Worst thing that happens - they don't consider your application. But if you don't send it because you're afraid they won't consider it? Then you definitely won't get in.
