Can I or Can't I?

I'm currently a Junior and have began looking at the Common Application. I have a few questions about what I can or cannot write down on it.

1) I have recently joined a club. Since I joined it more than halfway through the school year, am I not allowed to write it down as an extracurricular? If I can, how would I show that I was not in the club for the full year?

2) Do EC's need to be something formal, i.e., a school club or a school sport. I have recently gotten into creative writing (even started a fictional novel!), but I do not to this in the form of a club; I do it in my own time. Does it still count as an EC? On a second note, I also take guitar lessons every week and have played at concerts and such; does this count as an EC?

3) I believe there is a section about jobs on the application (if I am wrong, then just ignore this question). Again this has to do with the formality of the job. In the summer I do dog-sitting (is that the correct term?), but I do this on my own. Does it still count as a job?

Thanks for all your help!

1) There’s places to elaborate on your club activity. Not a huge deal.

2) Your guitar stuff and creative writing still counts I guess, but recognition for it makes it “worth more” so to speak.

3) Did you make money in exchange for a good or service on a regular basis? Then yes, it is considered a job.

Also, your common app account is going to get deleted by time you try to apply next year. They flush all the accounts each application year, I think. You’ll have to redo everything, so it’s not really worth filling it out right now.

Yeah, I haven’t actually filled out anything on it. I was just gathering up all my information when the time comes to do it.
