Can I pay enrollment at two colleges?

I am in a situation where one of the deadline is May 1st, but I am waiting to hear Finalists for this scholarship I applied to for this college. I have already paid enrollment for a college that I was planning to commit to, but am not sure if I want to go anymore if I get better opportunities from another college.

I wanted to ask if it is okay that I have an enrollment at a college that I committed to now, but pay an enrollment for a college that has a deadline but not sure if I am attending because finalists for the scholarship are announced after the deadline.

I am a transfer student, so no binding.

You can commit to one college and later commit to another if you decommit from the first college (losing the deposit).

But you are not supposed to hold places at two colleges at the same time.
