does vanderbilt allow me to place out of foreign language at the school with my subject test?

and what score is required

yes
my son took the SATII in Spanish and placed out with a not very stellar score…and his AP was only a 3 (Vandy won’t take 3s for this)

The standard scores vary from language to language. Just go to vanderbilt.edu and go to AXLE and read. You can also go to your department website for your language of choice as scores are NOT the same for each language.

Vandy son has a bit of a bad ear and I would be surprised if he could gain fluency without long immersion in a Spanish speaking country…

I am not recommending not doing a language. If you have any facility, it is a plus! Duke son found a new language led to his semester abroad and a nice cozy small department to hang out in sometimes with professors who knew him well…so it can be a way to find a warm fuzzy corner in a college and a great semester overseas…

placing out of a language doesnt get you out of the international Cultures requirement tho…
